Born and bred (well hopefully) in Cardiff, worked in Sainsbury's for 12 years, decided I needed to change my life massively or be forever stuck doing the same thing. Moved to London in January 2014 on a transfer with Sainsbury's. Within one month I got my first I.T job role on a first line support desk supporting a learning platform. Been there 12 months and looking to develop greater knowledge and experience..oh and looking for a job if anyone's hiring :)..

Between the hours of 08:30 and 16:00, four days per week, I'm an ICT technician in a large primary school. Between the hours of 16:00 and 07:00 the next day and the other two days, I'm a freelance Electronic/IT/Network Engineer. I also work roughly two to three gigs per month as a media/sound/lighting technician for a live sound company who provide sound, stage and lighting for live shows in medium sized venues like hotels and conference suites all around the country. My background in that industry is actually media and broadcasting but I'm learning sound and lighting as I go.

I love all three most of the time, but I'd give them all up for a 9-5 or 8-6 five day per week post in my preferred industry (electronics) that paid the same. The concept of a weekend has been completely lost on me so far in 2015 and I'm not going to lie, it gets old really fast.

I think you'll get really old fast, the way you're going.

Chief Technology Officer for recruitment company. Bit of an interim role but it's good fun, planning tech strategy across the different countries and such, getting to travel a bit too, and I only have to answer to the Managing Directors which is good as I get on with them very well. Free reign to mix it up and conquer the world, basically.

Still project managing a few web projects through my own company too, but a few nightmare clients have derided my enthusiasm for it of late.

That was more aspirational than actual.

I manage a sales and distribution office for a construction materials company. Which means, having spent most of my working life in mines and quarries, blowing up stuff and making big rocks into little rocks, I now shine a seat with my arse for a living.

Pie Taster sounds sooooo much better, don't you think?

You can shine a seat and taste pies at the same time....

I'm currently working as a supermarket stock control assistant working twilight shifts four days a week. Hope to change that soon and get an engineering design job where I will make use of my degree and be able to escape the parent's house.

Exactly. If anything it makes you a more efficient sear shiner too, since the contact area is likely to be larger ;)

Mass and friction are also increased too, which requires more energy (pies). It's an ever decreasing heavenly circle.

Aha, I see what you did there ;) I'm not going to do this forever and am working on a move to slightly more normal hours with similar income. If it works out I'll probably still be working 6 days per week but at least I won't be clocking up the same number of hours.

I had a similar situation quite some time ago where I was working shifts, doing on-call and had quite a bit of overtime - frequently working 80-90hr 7-day weeks. Kept thinking I should move on because it wasn't healthy and I wasn't really going anywhere, but going to a more sociable job would have been a step down in pay.

Fortunately, I was made redundant (not often you hear those words together). Best thing that could have happened, looking back, though 5 months out of work wasn't at all pleasant at the time. You may find that taking a hit on income in the short term is the right thing for the long term - is a lot easier to tighten your belt for a couple years than to sustain those kinds of hours in the long run.

I am sure I could find other jobs if I thought about it hard enough. 45 years of an uninterrupted work history until cancer struck and now I am considered a scrounger. such is life.

I went from having very little work about 5 years ago to almost having more of it than I can cope with at the moment. It happened very quickly but I've learned a lot in those 4-5 years.

If plan A comes together, my income will increase and my hours will become very normal. If it ends up being plan B, my income will probably take a slight hit and my hours will decrease to a moderate number, probably about 2/3 what they are at the moment. Either way, I intend on using the spare time to study and finish my Mechatronics degree which will enable me to pursue my desired career in the long run. I don't have any intention of continuing with what I'm doing now* past 30, and I turned 27 a week ago...

*Has been mentioned in another thread recently but including travel time for work, more than 100 hours per week for more than 50% of this year to date. "Road Trip" (iOS app) tells me I've averaged 2003 miles per month since I bought the van on the 7th of November, and at 40.5 MPG plus other mechanical requirements, tax, insurance, PSV etc that equates to a sickening running cost of over 50p per mile.

Some (very) short stints with car manufacturers.
    Manufacturing engineer in semiconductors.
Process engineer for a semiconductor supplier.
Technical administrator for semiconductor measuring equipment.

So yeah, mostly seat polishing and mouse pushing. :D

...and overall bored as hell. :eyebrow:

I ran pubs/clubs/hotels for 15years in the UK. Moved to Australia and vowed never to do it again!

Got into Real Estate and now work as a Business Development Manager with a bit of property management thrown in.

I tried sales and hated it! Im not money driven so it was certainly the wrong role for me.

Four laptops; two for upgrades and two for repairs, a Kindle Fire HD screen and a wet iPhone. That's what I'm doing for a living this evening. Yet another night in paradise... Also, damn this place needs a tidy up :/

And please don't mention the SSD hanging by its cables, that's very temporary!

Then tomorrow, parts permitting, I get to do the other two laptops. I need four of these ready to take with me in the morning though, for delivery on my way to work and at lunch time.

I'm not looking forward to that stupid big 17" Acer on the bottom. Component level repair on the ridiculously over populated motherboard :waah:
