    Just a small survey
I just wanted to know what you guys would normally do to your old computers/computer parts once to go for a complete upgrade/part upgrades?

    1) Keep them and use them as a seperate computer/keep the parts as spares
    2) Sell them
    3) Throw them away
    4) Other (pls mention)

Depends on the spec - but I turned 1 into a temp server and another into a media pc
I upgrade periodically so I strap parts together to make those
If I need cash I will sell em as generally they r still good pcs

    edit
    So I guess 1, 2 and 4

What is a old computer ?:D

Now seriously, i don't have old computers. I constantly upgrade, and i either sell the part i just upgraded, or use it to upgrade computers of my family members. But mostly sell, as it's the best way to keep your losses low. And some unsellable stuff i keep somewhere for future use (mostly computer cases, as i tend to buy higher price cases which are hard to sell, at least for the price i consider acceptable).

Someone tries to poach them, I fight them off and lose some stuff in the process. I sell what I don't need and use the rest to create a mini ITX build. Well that's what I did this time, I am not sure every machine will turn into a mini ITX when I am done with it :hehe:

I tend to keep them, as i know i wont get much if i sell them.

Also i cba trying to ebay them, find time to pack them up, get ready for them to ring back saying they cant overclock to 6,00000 ghz and want money back and all that jazz.

Nothing wrong with people wanting a bargain i guess.

due to the amount of money i usually spend on them, id rather keep them than know i gave em away for a song.

Most of my freinds arent into pcs, so if i tried to sell a top pc for say £3000, theyd faint and say they can get a Dell for £300 etc etc, you know the story im sure.

i did eventually throw away my Amigas gfx card though, even though i spent £1500 on it.

I'm currently searching for some one to sell my old one too. Shouldn't be too difficult for me though given I'm at a nerdy university where everyone wants a cheap computer that will game decently.

Usually pass them on to my wife... although building her a new rig recently has probably spoiled her now... and she has no got ideas above her station, and believes that I should build her new rigs instead of accepting my cast off... such arrogance and upstarterry!

I usually just sell old kit on if it's decent and will fetch a reasonable price. Otherwise I hang on to the bits for spares etc.

Last stuff went into a machine for my dad. Some stuff I sell, all depends on what it is. My current kit is going to go into a mobile/LAN mod that I'm planning using a airfreight case...

1 & 2. My complete Celeron D system is living in the loft as a spare/ emergency system, my last AM2 mobo, ram & cpu were sold to make way for a new AM3 based system. I do have a knackered chassis from the last build in my spare room, not sure what to do with it as its a really cheap nasty thing with no fascia- may just use it for target practice...
