Borrowed some 17" wheels off of my friends volvo today to check fitment on the SHO. the rears were rubbing really bad but they look pretty decent. i think some 1/4" or 3/8" spacers and lower the car a few inches and it should look good!

Just read back a couple of pages and people were talking about turbo lag... I drive an '11 plate bmw 320d and the turbo lag on it is huge if you're in first and floor it

On diesels the lag is often a bit less, in my experience.
ON of the cars with the most turbo lag i know of (beside my bravo - something they fixed in the MiTo and the newer bravos ;) ) is my mate's Skyline GTR R32
admittedly, that's also a big turbo, which when it kicks in eventually punches your head into the headrest and brings that car home ona quarter mile in 12 seconds or less consistently...

ECU limiting the boost pressure in order to reduce the power/torque in such a low gear. Saves the transmission and running gear. Its fake lag.

    Ah I see :D
It's a bloody fast car, next car I want is a 1 series or a Z4 or something of the like, the 320 is a pretty heavy car so the 2L engine doesn't really give the car as much oomph as it should at low speeds

Just remember they're saving you money by limiting the face-burning torque available at that speed. A touch under 300Nm at 1000 RPM would be rather devastating to a clutch/DMF used every day.

    A Prius...

Tbh I shouldn't complain, it's a company car and it's got nearly every option there is.

Haha, I went for a drive tonight and turned the traction control off for a bit of fun, they've definitely left quite a bit of torque for 2nd gear ;)

i didnt know the prius was a world car...

some people like them....im not a fan. and no its not because of the usual masculine insecurity reasons. i find the seats to be far too firm and flat...they dont "hug" you like a proper bucket seat should. and the sound of the doors closing (ie: light/flimsy build quality) drives me crazy. i know they are built light for fuel economy, but even the door on my 23 year old escort sounds considerably more solid than a prius door.

It's Japanese, and you have them there in the US and Canada.. what made you think it wasn't a world car?

there are plenty of manufacturers that have country-specific models in production. and when i see video of cars in other countries (the only thing i can base my experience on) you dont see prius'. most likely because...you know...prius....but still.

Actually the Prius is quite populair here, due to a massive tax reduction (you pay 14% tax instead of 20 or 25% because it's a hybrid) So alot of lease drivers take a Prius.
Unfortunately I didn't get a choise, the Prius I drive was from a former collegue who left the company. The car was still in lease contract and I have to drive it till the end of the contract (next year)

Most non-US cars don't have bucket seats in non-sporty models, no need for the sideways support when it doesn't have the performance.

Same with doors, why bother with a heavy door and a latch that needs slamming to operate when you can make the door latch smaller and smoother because the door (and car) are lighter... also helps to increase the fuel efficiency without compromising safety.

You'll find European and Japanese cars very different to US made cars. We don't have huge heavy steel cars with big inefficient engines.

Driving this now, it's a beast compared to my little 1Lr P reg Micra

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bf/Proton_Gen.2_(front),_Serdang.jpg

I have the 1.3 version as there were no 1.6's near me or for a decent price (This is 2005 model with only 27k miles clocked and I got it for 2.5k :D )

Soon to be upgraded with a decent HU and 17" alloys when I am paid. I had never seen a Proton on the roads... and then the first time I pick it up and drive it out of the dealership there's a purple Gen 2 right infront of me, was kinda weird.

There's a few Protons around here, a good friend of mine is given a new Savvy every couple of years. The dash and door trims feel like they're made of milk bottles.

Loads of them in Norfolk, not surprising considering the Lotus factory and probable employee discount.

    My criminally underused ride:

Spent 3 months and almost £2000 it up, rode it 3 times and haven't touched it since. Heck I still haven't even cut that steerer down yet....

I'll get back into it eventually, from those couple of short rides I did do I could tell it's a awesome ride.

I can't say it'd be too surprising if it was only available in Japan and NA. Having never been to the UK or Europe as a whole from what I've seen in pictures/videos/discussion it seems that Japanese cars aren't nearly as popular over there as they are in the US.

From riding in a Prius they seem like nice cars. Decent quality interior given the price, comfortable inside despite being refreshingly compact in overall size. My only complaints are ones that hold true for most newer vehicles: too much plastic and too little visibility. I'm sure driving them isn't exactly exciting but it's a hybrid... that's not really the point.
