I have this horrible desire to do a Top Gear styled video about my ancient, crumpled, rusted, falling apart pickup...

"It has a 2.4 liter in-line 4 engine... It will do not to sixty...eventually"

Fortunately for you, I'm probably too lazy. :p

I am still waiting for my track day to be confirmed (been waiting since December). I keep nagging the people.
That stuff looks like SO much fun! I want to take the 86 around a track as well.

Went to Castle Combe today for a trackday.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMiJHVToRp8

Managed to only get this one video before the battery in the GoPro died (after just 15minutes..). Annoying as I got faster during my few sessions of the day - this was my first session and my first go in the car in the dry, so my lines are all over the place and I hadn't figured out the braking or anything like that.

Spent the afternoon cleaning her as the weather was good. Pretty sure she's cleaner now than she was when I drove her out the garage a year and a half ago. Not bad for 12 years and 107000miles...

I'm really pleased with the colour change I've just had done on my wheels. I went from Silver -> Gunmetal

Good choice on the wheels, Tim.
Still not sold on the TTS, but to each their own. I guess my Audi dislike is part of the problem there.

Either way, the wheels look good, if somewhat big (i suspect that's standard size, though? how's the ride on those?)

Thanks, I'm really pleased with them too. :)

The ride is firm, but not overly so for a sports car - once you're up to speed, the ride comes into its own. I can quite happily sit in the car and be comfortable all day - I've done over 500 miles in a day on a couple of occasions, without needing to stop any more often than I would normally. In actual fact, I would've done London to Glasgow (400 miles) on a single tank without stopping if my bladder was a little larger. I did over 2200 miles on a six day roadtrip around north Scotland without any aches or pains.

Tyre pressure makes a big difference to both handling and general ride comfort in that regard. I overfill the rears by 2psi to get it to handle a bit more progressively at the rear - it now likes to get the rear out a bit more readily than just driving straight on when you're above 8/10ths.

Hopefully this year I'll be running it up around 370bhp/360ft-lbs, which should breathe a new lease of liveliness into it too. I also plan to upgrade the suspension to a different system that should improve both ride comfort and handling. :)

I was not a fan of the TT when I first test drove it - I was almost sold on a couple of other choices, but then I went back to test drive the TTS and it changed my mind. It's quite a different vehicle to the standard 2.0TFSI.

And it's still incredibly reliable. I changed the battery last month, the spark plug wires last year and the starter a few months before that. This is all I have had to replace under the hood in 6 years and 100 000km. I just have to make sure there is just enough oil left and it's good to go. At this point i'm starting to think oil may actually be optional for this car :hehe:

    Hm... sounds good.
They're rare as hell here (TTS's - only one I know of, which is as many as we have TTRS's), and due to lack of demand (the TT around here is a "girl car" - mostly driven by middle aged women), no one carries stock.

It sounds good, though. The ride is one of the things I hated on my Mk. 5 GTI (once hailed as "all things to all men" by Clarkson), and since then I don't trust VAG anymore in that regard - especially since my mate's S3 rides much like that GTI did.

Planned upgrades for the power boost?

I know on my ride, I am planning a few, but life and priorities are in the way right now. I am thinking ~220/230 bhp on the GT86 :)

A super 7 came off a roundabout a bit sideways yesterday when I was out riding, bit scary as if he couldn't hold the slide he would have ploughed right into me.

First thing I'm going to do is upgrade the brakes - better discs and pads. They will probably need replacing soon anyway (there was an advisory on disc wear on the last MOT), so I figured I may as well just upgrade them. I'm looking at Tarok front discs/pads and then EBC discs/pads on the rear, braided lines and better brake fluid. The OE brakes are pretty good, so there's no need for a big brake upgrade with the power increases I'm looking at.

The engine upgrades are quite simple - full exhaust system with large bore downpipe/sports cat, a panel filter and a high pressure fuel pump. That'll get me up over 360bhp all being well. I may need to upgrade the clutch and flywheel too - I'll switch to a SMF as and when it needs replacing.

Intercooler, hoses, manifold, injectors and a full induction kit can be upgraded at a later date to push towards 400bhp - after that, you're into mega money being spent on upgraded turbo chargers, pistons, con rods, and such.
