    wow wtf 4k ??

are those things street legal ?

nice corsa, just too european looking for me and definately too low

sadly i have news to report :(
    ========================================================

Well its as if someone upstairs doens't want me to have an MR2

    setup.

I needed to replace my brakes so I went to autozone to go buy them

I remember when I posted about the reason I didnt get a manual transmission was because I drive while holding a soda, or holding my cell phone.

I noticed that they had cup holders, which my car lacked at the moment,
so I said hey change is a good thing.

Being the geek that I am I didnt buy the regular cup holder but the
nifty 4.00 adjustable that stated "holds them all" showing a gatorade
bottle and a 64 oz seven eleven big gulp.

I buy the brakes and a hose ( was gonna do the usual weekend car wash)
    and was out the door.

Feeling thirsty I decided to go to Taco Bell to get my favorite soda
in the world, Baja blast. I order it and in the parking lot I install
the cup holder and put the 32oz cup into it. I put it in, size it up
and lock the cup holder. It felt pretty sturdy.

Well i get out, and instead of going into the street I go down an alley
behind taco bell (because of the low body kit). I take a right turn.

Midway between the turn the entire contents of my drink spill on my lap.
and by lap i think the guy know what im talking about.

This happens as Im about 50% done with the turn, so i had yet to
start to straighten out. I am taken by surprise, distracted, look at
what happened, and in the next second I hit a parked car.

The neighboors come out first, contact the owner of the car, and they
come out irrate to the point of me being a bit scared (It was a womans
    car with her boyfriend)

well we exchange information, and I am left with the decision of
reporting or having my premium go up.

Next day I spend 6-7 hours trying to make my car look drivable.
Using a dremel, zip ties and red krylon it was the best i could do.
I didnt have a mask so i just used a t-shirt... but my lungs kind
of hurt ( possibly from some fiberglass microdust)

In any case here are the pictures.

I posted pics of my car elsewhere in this forum, but I suppose here is where it should be.

2000 Mondeo ST200 (Americans will know it as the Contour SVT)

yeah seriously it was only like a second and a half, and then poof over 3000 dollars worth of damage

kinda woke me up to the sheer amount of inertia cars have, even at 5-10 mph :jawdrop:

Visualaid, how old are you? If you're young, get something cheap to insure with a 1.2 or 1.0 litre engine for the first few years. When you're a better driver, have more money and are cheaper to insure, then get a different car that's worth modding. You can get a nice first car with fairly low mileage etc for the money you have.

Buy something small with decent mileage unless you're going to be travelling a lot (i.e. 60,000 miles would be good). Assess your financial situation re: insurance everytime you come to reinsure. In the meantime if you really want to mod, find a small car, look up an owners club on the net and get some ideas. If you like the look and can find a good model for sale then buy that.

Thanks to numerous bad cases of nerves and a year in Uni, it effectively took me two years to pass my test despite being a good driver, yet I'm driving a 1.3 Ford Ka with 63,000 miles due to financial reasons (i.e. I bought it as I got a job so no money at the time)
If you get the opportunity, drive other cars. I did my learning in a Fiesta and an Escort, spent 2 months after passing driving a Laguna 2.0 and occasionally take my dad's Mondeo (125PS) out for a spin. Basically now I'm a lot more confident than I was about getting into a car and being able to drive it, handle the difference in power, etc.

My aim is to upgrade to a Focus (1.6 or 1.8, ideally a 2.0 if I can stretch the insurance) early next year. Unfortunately insurance companies don't assess you on a personal basis :(
To them I'll just be a 21 year old who's had a license for a year and a half with 0NCB with a nice car. So quotes I'm looking at are around the £1600 mark :(

Er .... OK so I really went off on a ramble there. But hope something in that helps.

Right im reading between the lines here.

    Join the KaKlub
Talk to the people on there
Spend £3k ona puma engine conversion
Insurance is for a 1.7 therefore cheaper.
    Pretty much unique car.
Beats scoobys, Fiesta ST's and all sorts.
    126bhp standard on a 800kg car.
Turbo later to get the magical 200bhp.

    205 GTI 1.9,

Only subtile mods to the eye, Gutman grill, Loewed just that little bit more on spax all round,
    Drilled and grooved fronts.

    Engine mods so far include
Complete engine rebuild with fast road head
fast road cam, valves and shim valves to new cam,
gearbox rebuild with replacment competition clutch
    S/S full exhaust with 4"

Not much planed for it for the time being, sort the rust out in places, change the silverish mesh in the grill for dark, Bit more engine goodness.

    Then onto a rolling road.

Love my GTI's, Lost a 309GTI to a barrier last year, not drove since, This brings back memories!
