Since it is LHD, you're in the states. Very few states I know of will give you a regular lisence at 16. You're probably looking at a permit, with a parental unit co-pilot. Unless you're in one of the few states that have full lisences at 16, which, AFAIK, are like Wyoming, Montana, Wisconsin, states that suck whether or not you have a fast little Japanese car.

Here in the states (well at least this crappy little state I live in - Texas), as soon as you turn 16, you're allowed to take Driver's education. Driver's ed takes about 6 weeks, and after about half that time, you're allowed to test for a learner's permit (have to have a liscenced driver 18+ with you in passanger seat). Upon completion of the Driver's ed course, you go to the DMV (department of motor vehicles), wait in line for many hours, and take a written test. If you pass this test, you get your liscence (full class C vehicle). You no longer have to take a driver's test if you have taken and passed Driver's ed. Now, doesn't that make you scared.

Hehe :hehe: Texas small, it's nearly 3x the size of Britain!

It's quite scary how inexperienced you can be and drive a car on your own. I still didn't feel up to a high enough standard of driving when I passed my test and drove accordingly. Unfortunately some people seem to think that as soon as they pass they can drive like an F1 driver.

Uncalled for. But then again I get acused for hostile behavior. I think someone needs to take their meds.

NY offers a licence @ 16 years old. And the conditions of the licence are only restricted to the time of driving. Meaning you cant drive after 6pm or something like that. and not before 5am legaly. @ 18 that licence would turn full automatically.

As for insurance raping him. Its possible. But it depends allot on where you live. In NY state there is a huge diference in rates depending on where you live. I was quoted roughly 3500bux a year for full coverage driving a 1989 xj12. (I wanted to get one but in the end didnt as I didnt want to deal with an engine conversion, the original engine died of overheating) but that quote is based on me living within the city. If I lived upstate NY. My quote would have been 1400-1600bux a year witch is penuts. My good buddy own a small cabin in the mountains and he pays 800bux for a 2002 mazda mpv but hes mutch older than me and hes insured with his other address.

Dont be so hasty to judje.

    I quite agree with you.

Personaly Im still paranoyd most of the time. And I wish laws were tougher around here. I realy would not mind going through a tougher process. I did take a fiew clases though. I also took a defensive driving class. But in all honesty with the crap going on on the road sometimes it scares the living shi*e out of me. It seems to me that everyone around here drives with an atitude. Ive seen trucks overtake and cut of compact cars. Ive also seen idiots pulling weelys in trafic @ 70mph+ on motorcycles.

At the end of the day I thank god everything is ok and and chalk it up to another disaster free day and experience in the bank. Like my unk says, your not a good driver untill you drive at least 150K kilometers. And even then it would be a waste if you did it withought trying to learn something.
