    Almost exactly as shown.

About 149,000km over about 4-5 years. The engine is the 1.8L 1ZZ-FE with variable valve timing. It's status right now:
    • oil needs changing, probably to a full synthetic and thinner blend
    • piston rings may need replacement soon from numerous top-speed runs; a smell is sometimes emitted during heavy throttle (oil possibly burning on cylinder walls)
    • brake pads are faded (guess why)
    • handbrake pads are also faded
    • front-right suspension giving creaking noise once in a while
    • need new windshield wipers:D
    **edit:
    • pulleys seem to be giving a squeeking sound :duh:
    • car can drift on dry road with speed :D

Firstly, didn't know you could fit a 2ltr zetec in there, secondly...why bother? I've got a KA and I kinda just accept that its not the fastest thing on the road whilst I save up for a new car....

    I'm after a MR2 mk3 or a 3dr Rav4 NRG i reckon.

On the flipside, nice looking KA :)

Why do people always post pointless comments like this? You could argue any modification is pointless since there's something better out there. Modifications make things unique and perhaps he doesn't want a stock car that everyone has...

A 2ltr zetec in a car as small as a ka, it will be a monster

Mainly because the chassis isn't designed to handle that much power, if you've got a car that (for instance has got a 1.2 in it but the top end models can have a 2ltr) is capable of taking more power then I full agree, tweak it, get more oomph out of it.

BUT this is a KA, the wheel base is too short to handle the kind of speed that unit can put out in a car that weighs that much, it is an accident waiting to happen on the motorways. Plus it is a town car and it is great at doing what it was designed for, I just can't see any logic in trying to make it into some rapid cruiser.

You're clearly not knowledgeable about this, people put 2 litre 16 valve engines in Ka's, Fiestas and Novas all the time, it takes a little bit of welding here and there but they handle it fine. In fact, they usually outhandle the donor cars quite considerably.

    The terminology is 'sleeper' :p.

And ive seen 1.6 and 1.8 vtecs in minis....and v8 lumps...and hyabusa bike engines....

They seem to like it there :D And the car handles it fine, infact the car handles it very well...

Not that I normally drive it, but I was extremely lucky enough to have a test drive in a new Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon yesterday morning. Best use of work time ever!

And by god, it shifted some. I remember 30 and 60, but the middle was a blur.

Was it the GTA? I love Alfa's with a passion, my Dad had a 159 for about 2 months as a temporary measure on a car change-over (just to see what it was like), and it was absolutely wonderful, especially inside.

Course, it'd be ruinous to own, breaking down all the time... But who cares?

I think the standard KA could use bigger tyers and better breaks as it is! There is always that "OOOO shi*t this is going to be close" moment coming off the motorway lol

How much does it cost to buy a 2ltr zetec, drop it into a KA and then uprate the suspension, rims/tyres and ehaust system? (I assume you do alot of it yourself? I'd be interested to see the difference in price for doing that as opposed to buying a new car, I have a feeling my argument is going to be sunk).

I know people do it alot, a fiend of mine has the 2ltr astra redtop in his corsa, until he wrote it off when it got twitchy on the motorway.

My other mate has droped a 1.8 K-series into his midget, I liked that lol.

I also like this 'sleeper' term, it is all starting to make sense to me now. :cooldude:

I don't know how much it costs to do the ford, but if you can weld, it costs from £2-3k for a 2l16v redtop engine, conversion kit, exhaust manifold, coilover suspension, polybushes, hefty brakes, suitable wheels and tyres, and the car itself if the car in question is a Nova, obviously you could spend more.

    Car: £100-600+
    Brakes £50-150+
    Suspension £250-500+
    Exhaust £50-300
    Engine and gearbox £3-500
    Conversion parts £100-250
    Wheels £take your pick
Tyres £200 ish for some 195/45R15 Eagle F1's.
    Polybushes £60

Edit: By conversion parts I mean: engine mounts, loom adaptations, driveshafts and inner CV joints, and possibly fuel tank/pump/lines.

200BHP/ton assuming you strip the interior out and your redtop is fairly healthy (150bhp, 750kg).
