My wife grew some parsnips this year, very tasty they were too.

I understood what you mean, parsnips are relatively uncommon, therefore it is normal for mobile devices to not have it in their dictionaries.

I was adding to that that sometimes one knows a word for something that one does not know, i have never seen a parsnip and i did not know it was a root vegetable.

Hmm you know parsnips can be considered a phalic symbol. Rule 34 and such.

Parsnips are common in Mediterranean cuisine. Perhaps not a staple in the Portuguese kitchen, but I'm surprised you haven't seen one. They are more common in the north because, like carrots, their high sugar content makes them more likely to last into the winter months. They do grow in warmer climes, just saying.

Slow roasted, ran through a food mill, and mixed into mashed potatoes; they make a great addition to a hearty meat dish.

Parsnips are perfect to ruin a good green salad. Sure they go well along with other root vegetables, but in green salads they ruin everything mostly because of their consistency.

Why are we talking about parsnips anyway?

I would have thought a man in a dress would have gone down like a lead balloon but well there we go.

Carrots were originally all deep blue/purple in colour. They still are in eastern Europe and are used to colour the blue Smarties. (fact of the day thread, I know...)

The more relevant question I think is why on earth would you want to try parsnips with a green salad in the first place

Depends on what the dress is made of and how good you look in it I guess :thumb:

Don't ask me. I'm not the one who did it. The canteen at work had some strange combinations at times.

They also had brown beans and red cabbage in the salad. I know is slightly more normal, but still bloody awful.

I suspect that the parsnip incident was just to use up leftovers from some root vegetable thing they had the day before.

I think you fooled them, and some embarrassment is being felt now.
