I would love to see on Bit-Tech some reviews of smaller SSDs, from these two categories: 80-96 GB, and 64 GB or less. Every time there's a new series being launched, only mostly the 240-256 GB models get reviewed. In 2010 there have been two reviews of SSDs 64GB or less, and none in 2011! (it's true, your other SSD reviews do show graphs with the Crucial M4 64GB results in them, but still, no dedicated review, not even a yearly roundup as you did last year with 100 GB drives)

You know, not everyone has £300+ to spend on a drive, and even those that do still have to build or recommend cheaper configurations more often than they buy a 256 GB unit. I think your readers would be very interested in these drives also.

    I echo your thoughts Chicken.
Some time ago, Someone decided to review Intel's most expensive 1366 i7 Processor, with a price tag well over £700, which to me was a total and utter waste of time. Reviews seem to be based on peoples dreams rather than the reality of things.

    What he said.

Also, office chairs and desks! Its all very well n good having spent 3k on a mint rig, but if youre sat on a bottle crate and using breeze-blocks n planks as a desk then youre gonna suffer.

Might seem like a waste to you but some people can afford kit like this so want to see it reviewed. It is also interesting to see how well the top end kit performs compared to the lower end stuff, even if you aren't planning to buy.

For those of us that will never be able to afford it, seeing tech-porn thrashed is aspirational...

There is a chair review in next months magazine. Whether any of it makes the website is anyone's guess.

Just like loads of people I would like to see some of the cheaper ssd's reviewed

Perhaps the best ssd in the price brackets ie under £100 £150 £200 £200+

Perhaps also a guide to setting up and optimising ssd performance for w7 vista and xp ( yes I said xp and I ment it. one of my computers runs best on xp - xp only apps and drivers for hardware so consider xp trim utilies etc) I would rather get my setup info from professional hardware testers with industry contacts than rely on self proclaimed forum experts.

If you could also consider guiding us through the performance numbers a bit. For instance whats the best for general system resposiveness ( my guess i/o per second or random access times)( my system grinds to halt when I try and close more than 20 browser tabs in one go and it's mostly the mechanical hard drive thats responsable according to resource monitor)
whats the best for fast loading of os and games ( my guess sequential read speeds?? )

CPC should also consider revising the multi tasking test - watching video whilest another video is encoding doesn't really test a modern processor too much. Three encodes at the same time perhaps one on a virtual machine - now you have real multitasking test. in fact a virtual machine test for processors would probably be good as well.

also hqv video quality tests for graphics cards would be good. but theres guess theres only a limited audience for that :( .

    original poster returns

Wow. I started this thread awhile ago. I did not expect it to take off so much. Saying that... I now would really like to see the CoolIT omni gpu cooler. Some might say it is not out yet but it is. At least with coolIts partner Pudget Systems. People can buy it here... or maybe coolIt will let you be the first to give a reveiw....

I agree with all that except for hqv quality tests.

We've made some SSD guides on the past, but perhaps we should look at updating the info. Still here are two to read for now:
    http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storage/2010/07/08/ssd-buyers-guide/1
    http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storage/2009/08/27/ssd-performance-tweaks-for-vista/1

Also, a quick note on the multi-tasking test. It's not encoding a video in the background, it's archiving a bunch of files using 7-Zip. we've been putting ideas together for a re-vamped benchmark suite for a while now. If you want to provide feedback, please set up another thread!

The most benign and benevolent Bit-tech/CPC reviews honcho, I have a favour to ask of you.

As you are no doubt aware, the end of this month and early November herald the release of two much anticipated titles; Battlefield 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim respectively.

I would be absolutely delighted if I could play these games with all the settings turned to 11 at my preferred native resolution (2560 * 1440 or 2560 * 1600, thinking of going up to a U3011) at an actually playable multi-GPU framerate (60fps+).

As such, would it be possible to pretty please include reviews of:

    • Tri-SLI 3GB GTX 580s
    • Tri-SLI 1.5GB GTX 580s
    • SLI 3GB GTX 580s
    • SLI 1.5GB GTX 580s
    • Their AMD crossfire equivalents if AMD users want to pipe up

With comments regarding micro-stutter if present?

I know I don't ask for much... :worried: and am totally not selfish at all... :worried:

I also know, that possible responses from your good selves are that it's either:

    1. Not feasible as it's not really representative of your customer bases' expenditure
    2. Not possible as you don't have the required cards
    3. It's not possible as your benchmarking system does not support tri-sli or quadfire configurations
    4. Not possible due to time limitations

    But:

    1. Bit-tech/CPC are awesome, and dedicated to providing a consistently amazing service, even to a minority (Also, you reviewed the MARS (the same cost))
    2. You're so awesome, I'm sure you can pull some strings and wangle some...
    3. I will actually loan you my rig indefinitely to do testing if needed
    4. I will also come to your office, sign any needed NDAs, clean it from top to bottom, and then proceed with doing all the benchmarking
    5. I will also bring cheesecake and banana bread beer

Ultimately I just don't want to waste loads of money on a duo/trio of new 3Gb cards only to find microstutter ruins the experience, and then not be able to return them - leaving me with somewhat expensive paperweights.
I know there will be reviews all over the internet, and here on BT, covering standard dual card affairs - but I'd love a glimpse at the true top-end cards done properly, as this is what I want in my machine!

As ever, mag and site much appreciated regardless.

    From Russia*, with love;

    TSB

*Actually, I'm just down the road in my office - but the AC is cranked up so high I may as well be somewhere in our favourite soviet nation.

Has the corsair h100 been reviewed yet. the antec kuhler 920
    ( :duh::duh::duh: edit - oops issue 96 p52 antec kulhler review:duh::duh::duh: )
, or coolermaster V10( coolermaster getting a bit old now) .

also when custom pc review pc cases supplied without any fans do you review the case fanless or do you fit some fans? because if no one fits fans to a case than comes without fans then it's bound to score badly and we could be missing out on some reasonable products? just a though

And when are we going to get a chance to laugh at the 4 core Bulldozers ( I'm assuming that the rumours are correct and the 4 core bulldudzer is an 8 core version with 4 cores disabled which kinda pushes up the TDP which kinda isn't the point of 32nm :duh: ).

And that HQV video benchmarking session - thats happening when again? :D

I'd like an honest review of BF3, not on it's knees sucking EA's fat one over an overhyped game, that's not available on steam, and that for an extra 10 pounds we can play 5 days early.

edit: Are there ingame sunglasses to stop all the lens flare and stuff, cos real soldiers wear them, seeing is quite important when peeps is trying to shoot you I guess.
