upon messing about with an old pc i stumbled accross a Cinemaster C 2.1 DVD Decoder card, if i remember correctly it came with a Dell Dimesion PII 300mhz about 7 years ago. just wondering if it is of any use and what it does. and if i should put it in my main rig, (maybe just for the hell of it) would i be able to use it
Before the advent of powerful PC's (Powered by AMD...sorry thats run off from another thread ) if you wanted to play DVD's on your PC you needed a Decoder card. Im presume thats what you have there BTW its amazing what turns up in Google
hmm it appears i cant use it as in teh system requirements it specifies a STB velocity 128 video card and a Hitachi GD2000 dvd drive, rather specific if you ask me, i was thinking that it was somethgin like that, but useless now that software con do it, but just curious as to if i could use it for anything, apparently not, maybe ill just burn it
Well software only emulates decoding. That board incorporates a proper MPEG 2 hardware decoder and so in theory should give you a clearer, crisper image with better colours. I wouldn't plug the audio into it tho as it only supports 2.1 channel surround sound. I'd have a go and see if you can get it running lol! I have a Videologic DXR3 decoder, haven't run it in years, might be fun to see if I can get it working under XP and with Power DVD XP... oooh and buggy as hell ATI drivers.
