Game - Batman: Arkham Asylum Format - PC (Steam version) Personal score - 8.5 out of 10 What I think - It's early days yet, having only completed about 16%, however the game has had a great impact on me and I am very impressed with how complete it feels. One section I recently completed, involved a meeting with Spoiler Scarecrow , and the scene was very well scripted, the enormity of the scenery was hugely entertaining. The fighting and combo system 'just works' and the finishing moves feel solid, convincing and satisfying. Taking down 7 or more unarmed enemies using hand to hand combat is not necessarily hard (yet!), but trying to do it while perfectly maintaining the combo system feels great and very rewarding when done just right. The set-pieces involving fighting or conversations with characters and Spoiler boss fights or the batmobile has had lots of time spent on it to get it right and it all feels very fluid and very well story-driven. I guess I am so impressed with the game that it compelled me to write a short recommendation, but I also wonder what you guys are playing, maybe inject some Minecraft reviews into this thread? Oh and stick to the same format of: Game - Format - Personal Score - What I think - If you get a chance like I did, pick up Batman in the Xmas holiday sales on Steam, coming soon! Even for the 16% I've completed it has been worth the few pounds I spent on it. Joe's Bit-Tech Review
Game - Fallout NV Format - PC Personal Score - 8.0/10 What I think - More of the same. Love wandering around the wasteland and finding random quests/loot. All in all not really different from Fallout 3. Same engine, same feel, same core mechanics and quest types. The addition of factions in game make it feel like my actions actually have consequences. The voice acting is better and more diverse than the same 4 or 5 voices from fallout 3/Oblivion. However it's still hard to take what NPS's take seriously when they're standing as still as a brick and have as much emotion as a robot. Hardcore mode also makes it feel much more immersive for me personally, but it's sure to piss a lot of people off having to eat, sleep and drink. If you loved fallout 3 then you'll love this. It feels more like a massive expansion pack than a totally new game. But with the amount of content in the game, it's still worth a full price tag.
Brilliant game, I've never been a huge fan of the batman games/movies before. But this really turned my head. solid gameplay and pacing. As soon as I'd finished it, I started it again.
Game- Bioshock 2 (replaying) Format-Pc Personal score-7/10 I was disappointed when I first installed it but by the end I was getting quite into it. The graphics can look a bit ropey and their's no AA, but then again some of the effects can look quite nice. The storys interesting enough. I only paid £9.99, it's ok for that but glad I didn't pay any more.
As per the sig, I've been playing The Witcher. Just wanted to get the story out of the way so I can play The Witcher 2 seamlessly. So far I've put in three hours and haven't touched it since. Seems like a decent game, it just hasn't sunk its fangs in on me yet. The opening was pretty weak in my book, but perhaps I'm just jaded. Bad guys attacking a castle was epic the first ten times, now it's just "Drudge through the tutorial battles so I can move on to Basic Quest Chain 1".
Game- Grand Theft Auto Vice-City (re-playing) Format- Pc Personal score- 8/10 -> Bought this last week or so from a Steam sale. Love the humour, the ambiance, the music etc. Pity it wasn't just a bit bigger. Am avoiding the 'Trojan Voodoo' mission in order to collect all the unique jumps Game- Metro 2033 Format- Pc Personal score- 7/10 so far -> I'm saving this for the weekend. It's like 'Stalker' but on rails. Story & graphics look great with the small bit that I've played.
Game - Prototype Format - PC (Steam version) Personal score - 7.5 out of 10 When I first bought it, I thought "Why the fck have I allowed myself to buy this sh*t?". But a couple of weeks later, I find myself giving it a late 45 minute blast from time to time and thinking "This isn't too bad actually". The fluidity and the way Mercer moves around the city is pretty cool, plus all the upgrades and special powers have great, satisfying effects. The story's a little meh, but the cutscenes are impressive and the whole thing feels like its well produced. The graphics can be a little ropey from time to time, but there is just so much going on that it's only to be expected. I'd recommend it if you want a quick. fun blast, some serious gore and good effects.
Game - Just Cause 2 Format - PC Personal Score - 7.5/10 A great game, but lacks something. I'm not sure what it is, but i just can't play this for hours on end. Couple of niggles like the save points and not being available on XP.
Game - Crysis: Warhead Format - PC Score 7/10 I know the crysis games have had some stick for being all looks and no guts, but I like them. Setting C4 on a truck and waiting will it drives back past a patrol of enimies before blowing it up, classic!
Game - Call of Duty Black Ops Format - PC Score 9,8/10 I think this is the best cod game so far, after the patch all the lagg vanished and infront of me the best cod game ever was waiting to be played. I love it. Not like noobfriendly mw2, but this game got something called recoil, and customization that will kill any game i know.
Game: Company Of Heroes Format: PC Score 9.5/10 Much as I love Relic's Dawn Of War games, COH is just so, so good. But the Falaise Pocket missions are just so, so hard. And Mortain, of course!
Game: Fable 3 Format: Xbox 360 Score: *** i love this game on my second play-though one good and the second evil.
Update: Batman now completed. Definitely up there as one of the best games I've played. Finished in time for the Black Friday sales on Steam (fingers crossed). Seriously, well worth getting!
