Hi guys, i have an msi 6950 twin frozr 3, i thinking of getting another one to crossfire, thing is will i see any difference in gaming with the 2 cards and if so, what games run better in crossfire and which ones run bad in crossfire, thanks guys and all the best for 2012
Well, I have two 580s in SLI and I do see an improvement in framerate, although it's not as earth-shattering as you might expect. The downside is that I have tearing problems with a couple of games, Rage being affected the worst. I know it's not much help, but the only way you will know for sure is if you take the plunge and see the difference (or lack of) for yourself. Even my SLI set-up isn't a world-beater though. I've experienced some minor slowdown while playing Space Marine, and the modded Complete version of STALKER Clear Sky runs poorly. On the upside, I can run all other games at max settings all the time. But I think in future one mighty card might prove superior to a SLI/Crossfire set-up.
Cheers mikemorton....its just a thought at the moment...ive tried the clearsky mod and the call of pripyat mod but after a few days i get a problem. X something has stopped working....and i cant play it then thanks matey take care
I have to agree with Mike that 1 super card is better then 2 lower ones in SLI/Xfire but I too would like to see some more opinions on this as I have a Twin Frozr 2 6870. Cheaper to buy another one of our cards(6950/6870) then buy like a 6970/90.
I have 2 6870 in cf and the scaling is great. Almost doubles the fps in most games. I won't lie and say it's totally without problems but for me the problems are very rare. It allows me to run bf3 on ultra settings without problems.
I had two 4870s and the scaling was good in most things, but there were some baffling execptions - Bad Company 2, for instance, downscaled so badly that the framerate halved, from about 30 to about 14. Nobody else reported the same thing with my Catalyst version and cards, and various Catalyst versions never improved the situation. That's the way Crossfire/SLI goes: most of the time it'll work okay, but one game in every few will just ****ing fail for no conceivable reason. Multiple GPUs add another variable into the already-huge equation of game performance. There are also temperature considerations: I had to dismantle my setup after a while, because the primary card's airflow was so obstructed that it was reaching dangerous temperatures under load. On balance, I decided that it presented more problems than it solved. It's an appealing way to bolster an aging rig and has novelty value too, but ultimately I think the money is better put towards a new single card.
Yes...my cpu...but got advised to keep my 6950......just thought even though my 6950 is doing a great job with quite new games and older games, another might just run slightly better....if it doesn't then ill just stick with the one card.
I can't comment on experience, but I have 'heard' that BF3 scales very well with AMD cards in Crossfire. Up to 100%. I'll be able to confirm this in a month or so
Yep. Like I said in post #5. BF3 works brilliantly with AMD Crossfire. Not just for me. One of my mates has 2 6870 in his system and he has the same happy experience as me.
I should be taking delivery of a pair of 6950's this week, so I'll let you know how my framerate changes in Battlefield 3.
