Ok so HL2 came out yesterday  and I have heard good things and bad things about how it runs on peoples systems so I was wondering if we could amass some figures here so if you have the game.

    a) What GFX card are you using?
    b) What screen resolution are you running it at?
    c) What kind of system do you have? (i.e. ram, processor, etc.)
    d) How did you acquire it? (via steam or retailer)
    e) Have you had any problem and what kind.

This should help us solve which is more buggy the game or the game via steam. I would answer this forum my self but I am lacking funds to buy HL2 :waah: (I could have cried last night when I pick up a copy of it and knew I couldn't buy it) I also don't think my GFX card is up to snuff as I have an GF fx series and have seen that there might be issues with that series. :sigh:

    a) Radeon 9800 Pro
    b) 1280 x 1024 (TFT) @ 60Hz
    c) ABit NF7S-2, AthlonXP 3200, 2x512MB PC3200, Maxtor 200GB sATA, SB Audigy
    d) Steam, baby
    e) Only problem I had was one scene where flaming barrels were being chucked into water (in the sewers) and the fps dropped to about -1 for a few seconds. No idea why, although I have recently installed an Arctic VGA Silencer and I don't think it's making proper contact with the gpu core as the gpu is one of the sort that has a shim (doh), so I may very well take the VGA cooler off and stick the standard cooler back on. Using ATI Tool, I can clock the core up to about 460 before it starts artifacting, instead of 430, memory clock unaffected, but the 3d display on ATI Tool jumps about a fair bit. Bit peed off about that tbh, but hey ho.

Other than that one time, it plays very smooth.

btw, using Omega Driver's, I know they have a .67 at the end of the version, but can't remember the rest :) All details on full, 2xaa, 2xaf (first time I've played a game with aa/af on).

I'm up to a part where I've dodged the steam coming from the pipes and come across a small handful of the bad dudes (and one of those flying, choppy things). Dealt with them all but can't seem to progress. Will have another go tonight :) :)

Just got it fired up this morning.

a.) Gainward GFX 5950 Golden Sample, Stock at 500/1000, Watercooled and clocked up to 525/1050
b.) 1280X1024, 2XAF and 2XAA High Quality in NVidia Control panel- Dell 18" LCD
    c.) Abit NF7-S, AMD 2500 Barton, 2X512 Kingston HyperX PC4200, 100Gig Western Digital ATA100 w/8Mg cache
d.) Collector's/Special Edition, since I didn't have HL1 or Counter Strike, so I guess via Steam with just the one disk.
e.) None yet, only played a little this morning, ran the Video stress test at no AA/AF and got 98FPS, and then with 2X AA/AF I got 39FPS. Ifs pretty playable, but I might tweak back to High Performance to see if I get 50-60FPS in the stress test.

So basically you don't have to have an awesomely top of the line system to run HL2 like you do to run doom 3. hmmmmm now I just wish My home PC had an internet connection. :grr:

    a) sapphire 9600pro 128
    b) 1280x768 (16:9) - 60hz(dvi) (25ms response- just good enough to game comfortably)
    c) barton 3000/400, 2x512 corsair value pc3200(2.5-2-2-8), shuttle an35n-ultra
    d) nachos? mmm ... steamy
    e) nope- expected the 20-30 second loads, as i only have a 10 and 60gb maxtor, and the 10 brings my ide channel down to udma4. having the pagefile on the other hdd makes up for it though.
saw a couple of texture seams, but just split second and quite rare.
love the captions option too ... it seems like someone in our house is always sleeping, so it's either headphones, or really low speakers.
i'd guess my framerate is between 30 and 45 , plenty smooth. on DVI i cant tell as long as it's over 30 tbh. anything over 60 is overkill with a flatpanel.
