run 1920x1200 resolution gaming in oblivion, fear, and high end FPS? I'm wondering what kind of hardware I'll need for pushing that resolution. Buying computer probably when conroe is comming out... and just want to know what specs you guys use know to power your 24" dells. Oh yea, is it possible to get the monitor to run with black bars all around, ie, having a 1920x1200 resolution monitor running at 1280x1024 with no scaling, only that the center 1280x1024 pixels are active while all others are inactive? thanks Bye Bye
Hrm, Dont run a 24" dell, or even all that close really, but I should think you'd be looking at 7900GT SLI (Or nearest crossfire setup) as a bare minimum for that high a resolution ?
I'm using what's in my sig, and it's barely adequate for FEAR, but is OK for anything else so far. I'd be happier with another 7800GTX in there tho, and that should then be good enough for pretty much anything at 1920x1200 Yes, it's possible to run a 4:3 screen on the Dell without any scaling, and also possible to run a lower vertical res screen with black borders all the way around. This is set via my video card driver, so no idea if you can with all video cards. There's no OSD menu as part of the monitor for that... it's all in my Nvidia driver.
you would need SLR for that res. 2 x 7800gt absolute minimum!! 2 x 7900 gtx would be better. I have the dell 2404 and am talking from experience here. you can select to stretch the image or keep it as is. its quite a flexable monitor, only downside being is its far far too bright. everyone agrees on this so dell are wrong here. google it and see for yourself. solution, turn the backlight down by turning the brightness on the monitor [not gfx card] down to zero. this reduces it by %25 exactly and makes it livable but even with it set to zero its as bright as you'd want it. Seriously, set to its default of 50 its enought to give you eye strain and a sun tan!!!
what aftershave have you got on pookyhead? you alone get aknowleged above and me and poor bladestorm get ignored
Ok... I was the first one who actually owns and uses a 2405FPW to reply then... but I like to think it's the Lynx.
Pookey - does your 2405 give you a sun tan too cos its so bright? If it does turning the brightness [that is acctually the backlight] down sorts it. You may allready know this but it took me many months of eye strain to find out this info to put it right. until then i was controling it via my gfx card and it looked awfull for obviouse reasons Mickey
I wan't aware you could turn the backlight down. I know you can adjust brightness, but I dont think it's reducing the backlight.
yeah thats right mate - Backlight = brightness. I cant remember where I found out now but a site did a test and measured power output etc etc what proved it wasn't just brightness. Apparently on zero setting power was reduced by %25 and on 100 setting increased by, yup, you guessed it, %25;] They done the test to show it was a solution to this global complaibt of the otherwise superb dell lcd range GO ON BIND - YOU ONLY NEED ONE MORE POST FOR 15 THOUSAND POSTS!!!!!!!!!!!! WERE WAITING
I've played with brightness, but the backlights don't seem to change... it's as if the screen just hets darker (the LCDs) but if you look at the black rebate around 16:9 films you can still see that the backlight is not changing. Maybe it's just me being dumb.. I'll play again later. Yes.. it IS very bright, you're right.
Pookey just to confirm. Press and hold the minus sign on your dell. NOT VIA GFX CARD. down to brightness and then set to desired level. It seems a bit dark at first but when a retina or two grow back after dell sydrome subsides you'll thank me for it;]
Yeah, tried it last night. Not really THAT effective, but I've now got it set at around 55%. It's still very bright tho... but that's not a problem, as brightness is a good thing.
Pooky 50% is the default. Everyone all over the world thinks the dell is TOO bright and there running it at 50%, not 55% like you!! You'll go blind mate, double blind if your looking at porn :] I have mine set to zero and its not too bright anymore. Its a 25% reduction in actual power and therefore brightness/backlight from the 50% default. I admit, when you've been dazzeled by the 2405 for a year it looks too dark at first when you set it lower than 50% but then so does any other monitor inc my IBM laptop if side by side prooving it is the dell. Each to there own really fella, I was more just making people aware that even tho the 2405 doesnt have any named direct control for the backlight the brightness control on the monitor itself is one and the same Too be fair, if its not giving you eye strain of head aches than why change it?
