how about hardware newegg/fedex has broken? 3 cold cathodes 1 9600 pro on the pro, one of the caps broke off, and i had to resoder it.
hmm, ive never had anything break in shipping. well, no, i take that back. when i bought my old FX5200, it came with a buncha extra's and one of them was NVDvD. the cd was packed sideways in the gfx card box, and when i got it, there were cd splinters everywhere, and no NVDvD . lol, i just guess ive been lucky as far as that goes.
Managed to kill my 9800 pro and then while taking it out to test what broke i snapped a uv cathode in half, but its all good it was under warranty and i got me a shiny new saphire one. that makes 5 graphics cards in 12 months, must be a new record or something.
well, i posted in this a while ago, but decided to update/recap everything. from the beginning, shall we? various things ive broken::: *intel 486 computer. the whole thing. harddrive, cpu, everything. *seagate 40 GB by dropping my dvd-rom drive on it. with it went all my music and fonts. *network port on my nameless p4 celeron mobo (now dead) *320mb harddrive by disassembling it for teh magnet. *450mb harddrive by smashing it with a hammer this morning * ms 5 button mouse *hp printer, but not entirely. after the first drop it worked, but you had to take out the pages as you printed. it worked until i dropped it again. *around...5 vcr's * 3 cell phones: 2 audiovox (1 blue, 1 black), :went thru the wash 1 motorola v120e (silver w/ blue backlight) :first it fell in a lake, then mom boiled it (got pissed that it wouldnt recieve her calls one nite when i was out with friends) various things my sister has broken::: *a dell inspiron laptop harddrive (still dont know how...) *overloaded the computer i am on now with downloads *walkman cd player and now, for mom: my silver cell phone (it was a p.o.s. anyways) the stereo in many a car essentially trashed the ford taurus (owned it for 8 years, drove it into the ground) blew out the wiring in a lamp with static electricity smashed the plastic talking parrot [edit]
4x Tagan 480W [one blew up and the surge destroyed the following:] 1x Galaxy 6800NU 1x 120GB maxtor IDE hard drive 1x MSi DVD-ROM 1x MSi CD-RW 1x Logitech Keyboard 1x Network card 1x nVidia FX5600 256mb Other items: 1x Logitech Keyboard (stretching cable too far when trying to change bits in bios and left case far away) 1x Galaxy 6800NU (dunno, was just dead one day) Nothing else springs to mind...
Scratch one Radeon 9700 Pro. Dropped on floor when installing a waterblock. Corrupted text in boot and black stripes in Windows. Oh well time to buy a newer gfx card anyway.
ASUS CUSL2-C mobo ASUS GeForce 3 256MB Kingston SD-Ram Creative SB Live! 5.1 DFI LanParty Ultra2 (RMA Monday morning, everything seems promising) Cheers, Mike
I blew out my power supply and most of my computer from a regular short. There was a wall of sparks and smoke... That's why I'm stuck with the horrible HD's I have today.
Blew up an old sound card from my old HP Pavilion. It had an on board amp for the crappy speakers which looked like it was powered by a FDD power cable. Put it in my new comp & pluged in a spare FDD Power Cable.... Tuned on my comp and got blue flames and black smoke Obviously that plug was wired up differently
Ohh... I also broke a CoolerMaster Black Aerogate2, dunno how...bud got a new one for free Cheers, Mike
hmm, lets see..... I have killed a 350Watt PSU, literally went up in smoke, was pretty cool (no pisc ) Sapphire Radeon 9600Pro. sticking a VGA silencer on and heard *CRACK* was 1 day after warranty ran out and my Sapphire 9800SE 256Bit edition. same reason as above, cept I dont know how to RMA it, cause Sapphire sends me to www.althon.com.
Crash!!! I've burned AMD 1500. Turnd on without a cooler. Just forgot to suply it's power. Couple of CD roms. My MX300 first mouse. RIP. And yesterday we had a houseparty. And for 50$ i shot my RED Icemat from shotgun. ****, steel hear nothing. But was realy funny.
Broke my first Maxtor 60GB 5400rpm using Diskeeper... I had the HDD partitioned (20/40GB) I forget about this and told DK to Defrag both at the same time funny noises... I rebooted the PC and the boot screen say's something like 'You silly a**! You f**ked up your harddrive!' £60 down the toilet. Apart from that one time, I'm very careful with my computers now, no really
....Defragging two partitions on the same drive at the same time will kill it? *meniacal laughter*. "So those two partitions are on the same drive? Terrific. Now, I'm going to need you to defrag both of those drives at the same time. You already know how to defragment a drive? Wonderful. Do so, but make sure you do both at the same time, it will increase the effect. Have a nice day, sir."
