You should be OK, it was a bad day for me that day :duh:!

I'm gonna take a 40gb HDD out of another old iMac I have lying around till I can buy a 250 or 300 gig one to put in it, so it's not too bad :)

Indeed. Wish I had done backups as well.
this past weekend I managed to probably kill two external HDD.
    one 120GB and one 200GB.

There goes my entire music and DVD backups.
And since I am thousands of miles from my DVD collection... :wallbash:

    My abituary:

A Mini Itx mobo and 1.2Ghz processor attached to it - One stripped single copper wire screwed it up while on ! Very smokey i can tell u

Countless Hard drives from dropping and excessive reformats

2 Usb flash drives - Bent usb pins on one and cracked chip on the other

Belkin Usb Wifi Dongle - Overheated and bent usb pins

108mbps router - wrong power supply ran 48v through instead of 12v

A fujitsu siemens server worth 2grand£ I Was changing thermal past on the heatpipe/sinks and they were quite heavy - they twisted round and snapped smt resistors of the mobo. I still managed to try and solder them, then quickly swapped the server for a laptop and a normal pc!

A UPS - I used it in a friends car and tried to run a speaker set up off it! Big bang and acid on the floor - smelt kinda fishy!

a pocket Pc from symbol - Barcode scanner thing worth £1000 - rigged it up to a power over ethernet plug by accident- that went bang

A Cpu 2.4ghz pentium hypthread- bent and snapped pins

Cut wires to Psu to stop noise - set on fire!

    Furniture polish on a Crt

The funny thing is this only ever happens to my own equipment - I fix Peoples Pc's and upgrade systems as a Hobby/Job. I have never destroyed over peoples stuff ever! Maybe because i dont handle it on late nights - clumsy time

I Have a NEO GEO cart system that i had modded to allow ntsc picture out as well as pal,
only i never had a switch so two wires had to do. at the same time i also had a megadrive that had a dodgey power conector, again two wires sticking out the back.

my fault that i never told anyone else about it but I guess i wasn`t the only one in my house that liked KOF94.

So after a long row, I traced the tracks on the Neo board that had an unwanted 9v put down them to a chip- a chip that just happens to live in a megadrive also.

I still have the Neo to this day and it works fine but the megadrives remains are long gone.

I also had a turbo graphics handheld that i`d wired into the dash of my r5 turbo. I worked **** hot for ten minutes while i was testing it, just as i started finishing it up I got destracted a little ( by a female) and somehow managed to completely kill it, never worked again.

I`ve jumped up and down on plenty of amigas including aa cd32! (most regretable i know but i was playing superfrog!)

I also headbutted a sega nomad (another dodgy power conector kept ending my game for me after about an hour of sitting proper still ) I bought another one to replace it though.

I turned a wireless 360 pad into a pile of pulp the other day.

I've just gone and toasted my 6800GT (AGP). Everest told me the RAM was running at 70C which I thought was a touch toasty... so I touched it with my finger to see how hot it was. Next thing the display dies, and when I reset the system there was corruption all over the BIOS screen. Bloody static electricity!

Oh well. A 7800GS is on its way as I type :).

He probably spilt stuff on them, thats the real only way to break one accidently. On purpose, well, thats another story...

btw, break is spelt B-R-E-A-K, you spelt it like a car brake.

I left a pair of computers on and running... on the floor of the garage and there was a flood-- there's a thread on that around here somewhere.

I put a PDA in oven once-- those little screens can't handle 300° F...

I fried 2 hard drives once, just by changing the jumpers around and switching them from master -> slave and slave -> master... and I did it correctly, so I don't know what happened.

Ive Broke Loads A Stuff On Purpose And Accidently..

Most Recently an Atx Power Pack old hunk of crap 400watt cheap shot
for kicks when running i changed it 2 110volts while plugged in 2 the 240v output :D pretty bang and no main caps left or switchers :p lovly PCB burning smell aswell

I got a pile of old P2'z Whipped them off the pcb and made kick ass keyrings out them

a 1 gig ddr stick off mem :D got over excited when very tired n um fored it a lil hard.. either that or it was already dead when i got it unsure

7 or 8 western Digital hard drives as they do there usual death trick when the controller for the heads goes on holiday and it throws it about inside the drive..... only ever WD that do it.... says something dont it lol

I Blue tacked an Old Pentium Zeon 2 my bed room wall

Damaged a 2000xp amd athlon :p i wasnt very awake and well i put the cooler on backwards n scored the die heavly.... the thing still works its a server at my unlces work lol

atleast 10 keyboreds in various circumstances normaly when i smash my fist down on them in rage... or when i smash them of the side of the moniter (thats when im realy pissed) or spilling stuff on them :D

crushed a mouse with my hand b4 :D angry at Americas Army n just thightened my fist around the mouse (im proud of it :p try it its bloody hard 2 do)

destroyed a P2 mobo when removing the cpu.. i was both tired and angry that time lol and got a lil heavy handed....

countless dvdrom drives and CD drives..

and deliberlatly killed an FDD with a special flamable floppy disc :p put loads of match sulpher on the disc part of it and clue a peice of sand paper 2 the inside of the discs case and insert it in a pc lol watch as the FDD stops working then RMA it :p

broke an x2 at my work lol work in pc sales and well i droped a fujitsu siemans x2 system :p (gota love insurance) never buy a FS system btw i get them back in the thousands :D there cheap **** :D

    death of a veteran

yesterday after a ong lifetime this baby finally died. VERY :D spectacular i must say pulls of smoke came out of the PSU :worried: . It also messed up the HDD and network card :sigh: .
This one wasn't used much though it was used only as an internet server.
Didn't lose much data anyway coz there all on my laptop.
I guess the mobo is dead too but hey what good is it anyway it's more then 5 years old
Now my da will have to buy a new one since he was the only one really using it i'm pusing him towards a HTPC :D

    I kinda killed an array.

    26 500gb maxtor drives. Raid5, 3com card.

Whoops, there goes the first drive, out of my hand, onto the floor. Whoops.

i killed lots of stuff in my 22 years of life.

there was a commodore 8088 mobo+processor i broke when i was a kid. dad still reminds me of it.
then there was assorted 286, 386 and 486 and pentium systems. i used to wear a SMD 387 in a locket for a long long time, in my youth.
and then the harddisks, ah the bliss of taking out the magnet and stacking them up. at last count, i have 37 magnets. :D
then the new parts, a few 40 gbs, one 80 gb, one 200 gb. i open them up and take out the magnets.
of new rams and processors and mobos, i havent been lucky, they are SO difficult to kill.

    this forum rocks!

    Ark!
