well fine then... We'll make it spin at 60,000RPM... I saw some 9.6v hobby motors in an r/c magazine from like 1992 or mayb it was 1996... it was called "Radio Control Car Action" I think they were around 150-ish US$

I wonder if a hdd platter would explode (explode) at that speed?

I've got a good one. I had an old Tyan Trinity ATX board and an AMD k6-2 @ 500mzh kicking arround, so I decided to set a personal record for uptime. And I did it, one month solid, 31 days, off by one hour! The only reasion I need to reset: bought a new mouse/keyboard and existing mouse had died (serial connected existing mouse) So I shut it off, installed the new mouse/keyboard, and turned it back on. It started to boot, and about half way through I smelt some plastic burning. I hit the manual on/off on the psu and shut the thing off, opend it up, blew away the smoke, and realised what happened. Both the cpu and case fans had given out (no clue why) and thus the case heated up really badly, and 3 resistors on the mobo melted. After about 3 hours of cool down period (threw the case into the snow :naughty: ) I got back to it and replaced the resistors with new ones, and fixed the fans (blew on emm :eyebrow: ) hit the power switch, and it came back to life! But it now has a relyability issue, the best it used to be able to stay up is maybe 3-4 hours. But I didn't use it for about 5 months, and just rebuilt the thing (gave it to my landlord for christmas) and so far it's been good (it's been online for a week without a problem, or any sign of speed loss). The os I was using when it went a month was xp home, the current os is 98se.

lol, nice uptime, the two most relyable cpu's I've ever used we're the AMD k6-2 line, and the pentium 2 mmx (newer) cpu's, I've recorded the best uptimes with both of them, and I've tested everything right from old intel 286's right up to dual zeon rigs. Food for thought.

We had an 386SX 33MHz processor server that ran without reboot (it was on a UPS) for over 4 years... I think it was almost if not 5.

Yeah, I agree, it would be quite unusable. My step mom wanted xp on a k6-2 550 w/ 192 ram. She hasn't used it for about 4 months now. But with windows 98se, it is a fine mahine to use, even for some light 2d image work.

lol, I used xp on my old tyan trinity atx with a k6-2 500 cpu and 128mb RAM, it only had a 2 gig and a 1.5 gig hdd, and it ran better on that setup than it does on most 700 to 1300ghz computers. If you don't install a thousend programs, and have every option XP has to offer turned on, and working at the same time, xp WILL WORK on a 300+mhz machine! Hell, I've even run xp on my p2 witch is currently in my retro media center, and that thing runs at 233mhz! Though at the time it had 200mb of RAM, insted of the 128 it does now. XP may be a peice, but it will run on just about any machine built after '96. So long as you've got the ram to spair that is. Paitence also is a virtue.

I must agree with Malfeo, xp will run anything higher than '96. I had to use xp on an old K6 333 oc'd to 350 w/64 ram. It ran, better than the 550 though. Kindof strange I must say.

And at work. a 400 celly is just as unberable as the k6-2 550.
I should also note, a p3-600 I now have ran xp beautifully. It has an 8 meg matrox milliania g200 onboard agp card though. So that would make up for it. I guess it really depends on graphics chipset for the visual themes and such. I noticed a large difference between a cirrus logic 5446 2 meg vs a geforce 4 mx 440 64 meg.
Oh well, whatever, it will run none the less. And those will be blessed with they they are blessed with, but I however have bought a 2.4 and oc'd it to 3.3GHz :naughty:

edit: oh, and I should say that I am sorry if it offends anyone... I know a kid that bought a 486 recently for $120 :jawdrop: he got ripped off bad

about 2months ago a few of my mates threw an old mac classic off a cliff and watched (video taped) its shattering death roll down the side of the cliff face. it was a cliff face overlooking the ocean and they almost lost it in the water :nono:
then before that they took to some old lan cards/video cards with a mig-welder and well... lets just say instant indoor fireworks there :) (also video taped)
then before that they dropped an anville on a monitor and ranover a cdrom and 386 and had a silicon bbq with all the left overs... twas funny watching  (all of which also video taped)

ohh, and also dropped another monitor off a 30metre bridge and went ballistic with a keyboard to a pole. :D
