After a conspicuous absence from these fine hallowed halls - issues at uni (illness/personal problems/the uni I was going to transfer to are only doing the course for the first time this year and so I can't transfer into year 2), and a singing job with a wedding band that fell apart when our guitarist decided to go back to Scotland... I've just applied for a job in PC World. Sales, no less. I want to die. I'm worse than Satan. And on that note...
Oh dear, what have you done? Can you feel the fires of hell scorching your arse, NO? Don't worry you soon will.....lol.
I'm ginger. It's practically a birthmark. And yes, it's dark and warm down here, and all the curries are mutton vindaloo as made by Jimmy Osmond. I want to live up there!
It could be worse - you might actually get turned down by PC World. I don't think I could live with the shame...!
He could be turned down for being overqualified (highly likely). What would be shameful is if he was turned down for being underqualified. Anyway, being a sales drone for a large technology supermarket did wonders for Chuck's career.
Why a new thread? Surely this should have been posted in here: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=177179
So a BT member gets a job at PCWorld in the same time space that PCworld have a massive ad campaign on the BT front page? Conspiracy, i say!
You know what I say? Fair play to you. After months of trying to find a second job for the summer and realizing how few jobs there are going at the moment, I was willing to take whatever I got. Thankfully I landed the perfect electronic engineering job on FT professional pay, which is quite literally epic considering they hired me on experience alone, and I'm not yet qualified. The point still remains though, if you're in the middle of illness/personal problems/uni problems then any job getting you some money for the year is better than nothing. I haven't been in the best of health since the start of the year either, and similarly have a few personal problems at the moment, but I was willing to take any job and keep working through it. I was extremely lucky to land such a great job (first day was today) but I commend you for having the initiative and the determination to work when you're going through stuff, no matter where it is or what you're doing. Good luck with the application mate [edit] Also, nice work on the cover You're a talented chap!
A mate of mine worked in 1 of the local branches around here a couple of years back, he quit after 6 months because he was being pressured into selling over-spec'd and overpriced machines to people who just didn't need them (like £2000 PC's to elderly couples who just want to send emails to their grand kids).... Dont get me wrong, if I was out of work i'd apply anywhere I could, but i'd struggle to be part of their rip-off empire.
I work at currys, which is like pc world+fridges. It's not too bad, aslong as you sell their 'Whatever happens' Cover on 30% (for pc world) of the computers they will be happy. If you want any tips of anything on working in pc world (as currys is almost identical) just give me a shout
I knew it!! Soon there will be somebody here to tell us that they work for Microsoft (In the MS Office department).
I take it you are just working there to pay some bills then, because your attitude isn't the same as another guy who posted here a couple of months back, thankful for a job, hopeful he was going to do a good job, and hoping to help some people make the right purchasing decisions. Which is exactly what Currys and PC World are likely hoping for. I wish you luck and success if you are there to do more than dick around and slag them off.
There's no room for sarcasm on the internet, I figure... Although I'm NOT the only one who thinks ill of PC World's regular staff, and the posts above should clarify that position on these hallowed halls. As an update to you all, I'm slightly browner on the arms thanks to the big red glowy thing in the sky that I must have appeased to get a tan with pale skin and red hair. However, no reply from PC World, and the vacancy has been taken down from the website. So, no idea what's going on - am I in a big pile of applications ready to be looked at, or am I in the bin for knowing the difference between an iPod and an i7? A quandry, indeed...
Job's a job, buddy. And it's probably filled if it's a store clerk type gig. They'll have way too many applications to send out a decline letter or email.
