Okay, someone want to explain to me the different between Airsoft and Paintball?

I play paintball myself, so I'm straight with that....

    Paintball hurts, airsoft doesn't
Paintball has visible effects of a hit, airsoft relies on honesty.
Airsoft weapons are more realistic, hence so is the game.

Eh. So if I already have invested nearly a grand into paintball, it's not really worth crossing over to airsoft - right? Not too worried about the realistic looking guns anyway.

I prefer airsoft and would recommend it more than paintball, but since you've invested so much I wouldn't say so. Another factor is that BBs are so cheap in comparison to paintballs. You will get around 4000 for £10-£15 (around $20)

I have been a few times, it's a laugh. I was going to take it up but then I looked at the prices. What a bloody rip off, half of the UK guys have such a markup on their kit it is unreal. I know they are imported and all that, but few people know that yopu can buy a REAL sniper rifle for less than a fully equipped airsoft sniper rifle in the UK. I cant remember offhand some of the prices but my mate got charged £20 for a piece of plastic the size of a stick of chewing gum. "it's a good price" the bloke said... pah, $3 in the far east. The problem I have found is the majority of airsoft shops are really eliteist, and act like they are doing you a favour just by talking to you.

Most of the guys that take part though are top blokes, unless they snipe you from the other side of the game zone and give you blisters. :grr:

fly, yea the cost can be.. rather a lot but I guess it depends how much you value the fun you can get out of it.

I mean my latest PC I droped pff over a grand by now into and 90% of the time I'm sitting talking on trillian or posting/reading forums. I'm checking Firefight Scotland and they have games all the time so it's not like a once in a blue moon event.

Fly: If you really do wanna start doing airsoft, have a look about on www.ukairsoft.net or forums.ukairsoft.net (there's lots of people selling kit on there, and they have a whole section for Retailers), they have loads of retailers listed on there, and they're not all prohibitively expensive (but of course that depends on what AEG/GBB you want to buy).

I've never actually been airsofting properly, but more or less everyone I know back home does it, so as soon as I get round to it, I'm going to start going. They import their guns directly from Hong Kong/Where-ever too, so they just wait till at least 2 others want a new gun, then place one big order. I know there's a lot of shipping duties on it, but you can still often get stuff cheaper that way than buying it here.

BTW, I've used the G3 SG1 and it's one BIIIG mutha! I couldn't have that as my main weapon, the games at the local site are mostly close-quarter battles and the SG1's not exactly suited to CQB ;). I'll probably get a good, high-powered gas blowback pistol (like an Infinity), and get an MP5 or P90 later on...

he's right about UKAN, I got my P90 with it running at 320fps and a FTK for £180.

Couldn't import it for that money.

What fps do airweapons have to pass before them become FAC (fire arms certificate)? I remeber when I really wanted an air rifle, some of the more expensive ones required an FAC. I know you would not need one for airsoft guns (doh) but just curious!

I used somebody's Famas at an airsoft event a few months ago, it seems that my method of double tapping messes up Airsoft gearboxes. You have to let the load-fire sequence finish before refiring apparently...

I think I may have broken his rifle.

For the guy who asked, airsoft uses battery powered guns which fire plastic BBs, I would say its a bit closer range than paintball and hurts way less.

The main drawback is that it depends on honesty to know if youve been hit, oh and in wind the airsoft has more trouble than a paintball gun.

Airsoft ammunition costs a FRACTION of what paintballs do though. You can buy like 2000 for less than the delivery cost of 100 paintballs :jawdrop:

Aisoft guns are classed as Toys not Firearms and do not need an FAC

That's the next gun I plan to buy after my gas-blowback Baretta silver edition. My favourite of the MP5 series
