Fears of a terrorist attack on the UK by Islamic extremists are running at an all-time high.

The discovery of the deadly poison ricin in a London flat has heightened concerns and recently Tony Blair said it is not a case of "if" but "when".

One frightening possibility is the so-called dirty bomb - a crudely-made device that combines a simple explosive with any radioactive material. The idea is that the blast disperses the radioactive material willy nilly.

The dirty bomb is perhaps the least understood of all terror weapons, but new research by BBC Two's Horizon programme brings home the full horror of how a dirty bomb attack might affect London.

    Very, Very scary.... :eeek: :sigh:

I remember reading about these ages ago in a scifi book. Only they didn't use a bomb, they just dumped shreaded radioactive waste out the back of a cargo plane.....

Horizon - Dirty Bomb is on BBC Two on Thursday 30 January at 2100 GMT.

Hmmm... bit of a revolutionary attitude!!!

Personally I think that no extremest group will commit an atrocity like that simply because of the repurcussions afterwards. Look at afghanistan, Twin Towers happen and the Nation is reduced to nothing in weeks. What government is going to, essentially, sign its own death warrant by condoning such a thing. Nobody in a hurry I can tell you. But then, thats only my opinion.

i mean that the problem is getting worse & the chance of a dirty bomb hitting is becoming a big threat

& the fact that mr bush has siad hes goinn to war even if no-one else wants it is only inflaming the situation

there acyually is not such a big chabnce of a dirty bomb hitting london it is mostly played up by the press that the terrorists have overrunn britain clearly it is exagerated.
International inteligence knows that terrorist organisations like al-queda have not got any weapons grade radioactive substance to make such a big "dirty bomb" the bombs made are more likely to made of medicall raidiological material so the radioactive fallout won't be so large i think there is no need to break out in mass panic the CIA/INTERPOL/MI5/MI6 know more than you could imagine now after 9/11 security with these secret service organisations whould be very tight and it whould be very likely that any attack on a modern western country whould at least be warned of.:worried:
