Yeh me likes that too. Getting to the point where you no longer have to take your hand of the rodent type thingy
i would have to agree with you penski... but the other thing... is my cordless keyboard and mouse... i couldn't do with cables now...ever..
what are rodents? And I think the mouse was the most usefull, after that the CD-Rom and CD-Writer. And after that the 3D-accelerated graphic cards
okay, than CD-rom and writers get on first place, 3D acceleration on second and on third GUI OS's like MacOS, Windows, ...
For me it was 3D acelerated graphics cards, software to 3D accelerated WOW, I was one of the first few people in the UK to get a 3dfx Voodoo1 card, it was a Realvision Deltron Flash 3D, it had a bit in the manual at the back about games that will be released with 3d support as at that time only 12 titles supported the card.
errr?? I've seen almost every episode of the simpsons, but I don't recognize that part? Also, CAT5 cables, wireless networks, instant messengers, personal broadband with flatrate, MP3, USB, ... all good stuff
how old is the mp3 compression codec? i can't remember...although 1988 is ringing bells :s the simpsons quote - bart's class go on a field trip, bart is late, bart has to sit next to wendell, bart complains that wendell always pukes... ...events happen and bart has to sing a song, he's not allowed to choose which "they took bart simpson to the railyard (yeah!) and they buried him in the sand (oh lord!) and every locomotive that came rolling by said 'there lies a great looking man' (lord! lord!)" anyway - they arrive safely and wendell hasn't puked so bart says.... "hey, Wendell! you made it, buddy!" slaps wendell on the back and wendell promptly pukes i haven';t seen this episode in at least 7 years *n
penski you are right, 1987 was when they somewhat started work and >88 was when the mp3 codec was born. I personally i find it hard to choose the most usefull. quite possible the internet as it has changed a big deal since 1992, thus innovation, though i think voice commands has made a big impact on our lives, we may not use it yet, but we will
the turbo button on my old AT case !!! w00t fear the speed!!! oh and joysticks! i remember getting my frst joystick. i was happy to not have to use the arrow keys in jetfighter anymore. BROAD BAND BABY though i do have fond (errr maybe thats not the right word? more like FRIGGIN FRUSTRATING) memories of trying to play CS on a 28.8
joysticks were out way before the last 10 years... I still have joysticks for my Dragon 64s and my Speccy
Here is some : Pentium & Athlon -- WHY? They both pushed forward the boundaries of CPU performance at the time and kick started a new generation of rivalry and ultimate benefit of the consumer, more power, lower prices. More features built into mobo -- WHY? Remember the bad old days of expansion and interface cards. The wire mess now is nothing compared with that, ! CD-RW -- WHY? Stores 451x or 486x more data than a FDD, and is now less than 20p for that kinda storage. Just awesome. GB HDDs -- WHY? £ per GB have plummeted. No longer have to worry about storage concerns, enabled more media content than ever before. 3dfx Voodoo 1/2 -- WHY? Kick started the 3D gfx revolution and then dominated. Created the great rivalry, which ended with 3dfxs sad demise. Free ISPs -> Flat rate dial up -> Broadband -- WHY? Internet for the masses and now hopefully fast internet, ! Opened up online banking, online shopping, streaming media, online news reports, traffic reports, truly major innovation this lot! Optical mice -- WHY? No more loss of precision, just solid accurate pointing whenever you need it. Serious audio -- WHY? Changing from onboard or 8bit ISA sound with 300 watt PMPO to a SoundBlaster Live! Platinum with a Digitheatre 5.1 is nothing short of breathtaking, Fury 3 -- WHY? One of the first Direct X Windows based games. Proved it could be done and very successfully to. Windows XP -- WHY? Quite simply... The power and stability of NT combined with the ease of use and application compatibility of Windows 9x. I find it simply awesome that an operating system I can just pick up and use so easily can run for weeks on end with 100% stability. Linux -- WHY? Free, extremely powerful OS for those who need it. Still needs to be united.
