Prices in general have taken a jump this year. Insurance for the scoob doubled this year for no reason.
I'm ranting about my premium increasing by £70 when I declared 2 not at fault accidents. I've 18 years no claims, but my insurer (Swiftcover) tells me their 'procedures' have correctly increased my costs even though I'm no more likely to cause an accident than I was prior. When i can be bothered I'll complain right up to the ombudsman...
No way. Fancy that... Tax is a visible way of doing that, sure. But I drive a 13 year old diesel that is more to tax and insure than a lot of modern cars despite getting in excess of 50mpg which is more or equal to a lot of current vehicles. Now surely insurance companies will get tax breaks from the government behind closed doors, not to mention a whole load more £££ on the bottom line. Or maybe I just don't trust those in power.
From what I recall it's a combination of one of the larger brokers going under thus less competition and insurers generally putting their prices up as apparently they've been losing money as a result of all the scam crashes. The latter could just be horse crap to try and make extra cash but there we are...
On this basis - buy an Audi... I drive a 2.0TFSi Quattro S-Line A4, 23, 5 years no claims, comes in at £780, including business use...
£320 for a 1.5 Peugeot 106 diesel no turbo 13 years old fully comp £200 fully comp for a 10 year old petrol Ibiza. Insurance baffles me, surely an older slower car would be less to insure?
i think insurance companys just name a price for a certain car, then they all stick to the same prices (roughly) im 22 and my insurance on a 2.0 turbo saab is only 50quid more than my old seat ibiza!! but aslong as all the insurance companys stick to the same prices, then we have to pay. no claims discount = nothing years held licence = nothing miles per year.... etc etc
I'm in the US, so I've got a slightly different situation.... but I got quoted at over $7000/yr from the company my parents use to insure a '05 Honda Civic.... I'm almost 20, had my full senior license for nearly 2 years, done drivers ed, no accidents. Adding my parents (both w/clean records) only raised the cost. I ended up getting an '08 VW Rabbit, and it ended up being significantly cheaper to register and insure it in my parents name, with the 3 of us listed as drivers.... I'm going to get screwed on insurance until I'm at least 25.... just goes with being a "high risk" driver.... aka, male and under 25.....
Mine went up by about 20% back in September last year so I asked why and was given an intresting answer. It's because the companies weren't making enough profit so guess who has to make up the short fall
you also forget that the postcode also make a massive difference to insurance prices for example a quick check of me - 28 year male, 5 years ncb, 7 years with full license driving a 05 1.5 diesel Clio now where i live currently there is a Offences against vehicles rating of 6.4 (national average is 11) which has meant my insurance fully comp with no voluntary excess (compulsory £120) costs £350 with the same details, changing the post code to where i used to live in Salford which has a Offences against vehicles rating of 22.2 means my insurance would be roughly £930 on the comparison sites so an extra £600 for a different postcode!
Pug 206 is considered a bit of a boy racers car so premium is slightly higher. While it's not a fast car there is a premium added because of this. Try admiral, they are fairly good. I personally use Adrian flux and A-plan but they are generally for slightly more specialist insurances. Also you cant just say you have one year no claims as they would want written confirmation from a previous insurer
Seeing how the newly qualified kids drive around here and overhearing their conversations about using the public roads as a race track I am really not surprised. They put the prices up for the rest of the sensible drivers out there.
This ++. I passed my test about a month ago, looking around the cheapest I could get on my own was about £1100 TPFT for a 1.25L 2000 Fiesta. Adding my other half as a named driver (23yo too but driving for 4yrs w/NCB) dropped it to £800.
30 years old 2003 Renault Megane 1.9dci £295 Fully comp! Happy days! Mind you the first car I had was an Astra Merit 1.4i. £2400 for my first year. Hit a Clio up the arse within 2 months. second year £3000!
I've been out of the UK for a year without a car, can't wait to get back and re-insure it wooo. I'll also have to say I've only just "bought" the car as I transferred it to my parents whilst I was gone...
Infact anyone female will do putting my sister on my parents car along with me dropped it by £200. When she went on her boyfriends car same result.
I'm going to stick to my push bike... Ill get a twist and go if i need transport. Tried to get my 22 year old Renault 5 Campus insured last year £3000 They can suck my dick for that much.
Same price for my insurnace on my first car, Suzuki Swift 1.3 GTI G reg (10yrs old when I bought it)....That was a fun little car!!
