What is it with ebay. I wouldn't mind getting a cheap tft monitor to use for the other PCs I've got, so 15" or 17" would be fine. But almost all of them on ebay are either only a little cheaper than a brand new one or are more expensive, or damaged. I mean, why do people think they can ask for the same amount as a new monitor for a used one?? And why do people pay more than the cost of a new one. Someones got some Dell 15" TFTs on there at a buyitnow price of £55, I can almost get a brand new 19" widescreen monitor for that!!!
I made a similar thread a couple of weeks back in the marketplace. I was looking on ebay for a Cosmos S and noticed a few sellers selling them at around £200. Whats more amazing is that judging by there feedback they have sold several at this price. Just shows that there are idiots willing to pay silly money without doing there homework.
Their. It all depends on the quality of the monitor. Your 19" TFT for £55 might be totally crap compared to their 15" one at the same price. Size isn't everything when it comes to monitors. I can't seem to get people to understand that these days.
people seem to assume that because its ebay, its cheap. personally i find refurbs etc handily on ebay, cables etc maybe
I've found the same thing with windsurf sails. 3 year old used sails going for £150, when you can get a new one year old one for £225. It's ridiculous!
Well it should be. I should be able to buy second hand items at a price significantly cheaper than it costs to buy a equivalent new item. @Unicorn Stop being obtuse,
I got a 17" Hyundai with DVI, adjustable height, speakers and mic for £7, guy lived 3 miles away so no shipping fee either. ebay worked fine for me. Just check my logs, it was £8.50, mybad
Sellers generally get pretty shafted, they have a fee to put it on ebay, a fee percentage taken off at the end and a paypal fee too. Buying off ebay is great, but for selling its getting harder and harder to make money, espiecally as they keep making buyers only have the option for free postage lately. I sell a lot of games, limited edition steel cases can cost £2 to send so if I'm selling it for a fiver minus fees, its pretty crap.
I suppose its all about waiting till the right thing comes along. Spending lots of time looking and hoping that no one else has spotted it.
If the OP can find a local pick up only one like this then he should be able to get a pretty good deal.
I've got a few I'm watching, but the soonest one is still 2 days away and it already as 4 bids at £31 with 9.99 del. There is oneat 99p, with 4 days remaining thats pickup only which is just down the road, so with a bit of luck, I may be able to get that.
People are stupid and don't bother checking around even over 2 sites. Hell, I've seen people furiously bidding on one item so it comes to more than they could have paid for the BiN price for the same item below it.
Depends how hard you look, I got a brand new retail MX Revolution for £34 shipped, when an OEM new one is ~£60. Spend several days/weeks searching and you can sometimes find a really good deal.
I can prolly sort one out for ya if your desperate. I've got 2, I only bought the one posted above on a whim 'cos it was cheap. PM me if your interested, I'll do ya some pics.
i'm in a bit of a funny one at the mo actually, waiting for the student loan, saw the monitor i wanted (dell 2709w) at a good price and clicked buy it now. thing is im waiting for the student loan, just hope it comes before monday :s
Yeah people are stupid on ebay. If I take a notion to buy something I'll usually wind up with 20 of it in my "Watching", but I've seen people bidding like mad on something despite someone else selling the same thing but with zero bids, & ending sooner. Works for me and my free time though =D
