I want the fastest DVD/BD rom drive for installing games, I'm not fussed about noise. At the moment I own a LiteON iHAS524 A DVD drive..and it so slow for installing from disc. What do you guys recommend? Also Bit-tech, I would like to see a review of todays DVD/BD rom drives, in CustomPC soon. Cheers, Simon.
you have pretty much the fastest drive already. there are 52x drives, but you wouldn't notice any difference on the read speed as the DVD discs rarely spin up to full speed anyway. I would imagine you notice the tardyness of the cd reading speeds because the rest of your rig is almost instantaneous and is built with that in mind. Use steam and the like for downloading games and you'll see a massive difference to the installation speed.
I know what your saying, but it is not the answer I'm looking for...But thanks for the reply I have had a HP DVD rom drive in the past and it installed games veryfast, it was noisy..but it took half the time to install a game compared to my Liteon. My liteon drive installs games at about 10MB/Sec...
I'm assuming that your A/V software isn't scanning the DVD drive during installations? Try disabling it for one installation and see if it makes a difference? Doesn't it also depend on the amount of buffer memory on the optical drive as well?

Same situation as you man, my dvd drive is rediciously slow and loud , Gona buy myself a BD-RW drive soon I think
I have had drives in the past, that as soon as you stick the disc in, the drive spins up to its max and installs the game at its max speed....I don't get this with this drive. It's like its gone into Sunday driving mode.
