Alpha Beta Gamma and Delta, pen drive is Alpha Mobile. My computers are called UNIT-00, UNIT-01 etc. Moriquendi
Macintosh HD (Didn't see the need to change it), and networked drives - LaCie (TV shows, music vids etc and default torrent location) (again couldn't be bothered to change it) Xerxes (FW portable drive for when I wanna move it to somewhere else) RAID (Disused, unless there's a pretty huge torrent that I don't want bogging down my other two drives) Nickel (Films only). There's another mac hd on the 'server' but again just can't see any point in changing it, it's not like I actually really use it for much other than torrent box and media server. (I really really REALLY need to get a mini itx board or something, that thing just kills my leccy bill)
DVNO - Internal start-up disk in iMac. Danger - Main backup partition on external drive. Mac OS X Install DVD - Have a wild guess what this partition is...
C: Main Disk - 69.90GB partition D: System Reserved - 100MB partition E: Storage Disk - 1TB TV Shows 2 - 250GB NTFS folder partition TV Shows 3 - 157GB NTFS folder partition For some reason the names of my hard drives do not show in My Computer, only is Disk Management. Any ideas?
I used to have awesome hard drive names but over the years I ran out of imagination and now they're quite boring -I have yet to name my SSD -Snap (500GB) -500 (500GB) -Black (640GB) -Rocafella (name reserved for my biggest HDs. This time it's a 1.5TB)
SSD Windows Games & Music Torrents Films TV TV Misc Bit boring. May try and think of something a little snappier for them.
Local Disk C Varastolevy (storage disk, a single TB drive) Teravarasto (tera-storage, rest of the TB main drive) Also my computers are just named "intel quad" and "AMD Bench" and "dell". I just don't givvashit.
It's just a drive.. just name it something sensible. Mine are: C: Windows D: Music and Video E: Storage Only servers should have names. Mine are: Main RAID5 server - Earth RAID5 Mirror - Moon.
Nice one. Mine: C: Chi (contains OS; named after the active principle or energy of any living thing) D: Dao (temp and swap files; named after "the Way" or the fundamental true nature of the world) E: Ebisu (program files; named after Japanese god of labour) F: Fujita (work documents etc.; Japanese for "farmer's field") G: Gemmei (games) H: Hitomi (photos, videos; Japanese for "eye") I: Izumi (creative work: sketchup files etc.; Japanese for "wellspring") J: Jumei (music) K: Kyoko (backup files; Japanese for "mirror") L: Lei (download files) My main computer is called Navi; my work tablet Orino ("workman's meadow"); my wife's laptop Edna (you have to have grown up with "Willow the Wisp" liker her to appreciate that one), my HTPC Tube.
Started naming my drives with the prefix 'x-' years ago and just never bothered to come up with a new one. Internal: x-linux - 250GB x-media_01 - 1TB x-media_02 - 1TB x-windows - 250GB External: x-disk_01 - 320GB x-stick_01 - 8GB x-stick_02 - 8GB p.s. my computers follow the same naming convention x-command - main Linux PC x-gaming - Windows gaming PC x-laptop - no points for guessing.
I'm pretty straight-forward with my naming, apart from my NAS. C: Applications D: Games Z: Media External - Data Backup NAS - Mini Oven
