I name my PCs, my drives get names based on their use and/or size.

The first is a 128mb SSD, the rest are 1TB Samsungs
    Win7
    Win7 Backups
    Ripley Data
    Ripley Data Backup
    Downloads
    Downloads Backup

In the NAS I've got, these mount points:
    Bucket
    Music
    Audio
    Images
    Video
    eBooks

My externals are named by their capacity and use, so I've got:
    Media 500
    Macfiles 160
    Timemachine 250
    Install 250
    VM 250

BTW, my current machines are named Ripley, Vasquez & Dropship. My main PC is always named Ripley the 2nd is always called Vasquez. This convention stays constant even through upgrades

One hard drive split into two partitions.

    C:\ and CANVAS (D:\)

It's called canvas because art creation will take place on it.

I used to have a LOT more drives than this, but I've been spending a lot of time recently getting everything off my PCs, laptop and multiple other drives which just lay on top of the server for hot swapping. It's getting there. The arrays are all in order, now I just need to finish off getting the files on them organised.

    File Server-
    HotSwap1 - 320GB WD Caviar Blue
    HotSwap2 - 320GB WD Caviar Blue
    SystemArray - 2x 74GB Raptors in RAID 0
    StorageArray1 - 3x 1TB Caviar Greens in RAID 5
    StorageArray2 - 3x 1TB Caviar Greens in RAID 5
    BackupArray - 2x 1TB Caviar Greens in RAID 1

Total - 10 drives. More to come. I want to make Array1 and Array2 into one large array when I get a better controller and more drives for it.

    PC-
    Vertex - 1x 120GB OCZ Vertex 120 (System)
    Velociraptor - 1x 300GB WD Velociraptor
    RaptorX - 1x 150GB WD Raptor X

    Total - 3 drives.

    Laptop-
    CavBlack - 1x 500GB 2.5" WD Caviar Black

    Total - 1 drive.

    (Gaming) PC-
    CaviarBlack - 1x 1TB WD Caviar Black
    CaviarBlue - 1x 320GB WD Caviar Blue
    CaviarGreen - 1x 500GB WD Caviar Green

    Total - 3 drives.

    Externals-
    MyBook - 2x 1TB WD Caviars - RAID1
    NAS1 - 1x 1TB WD Caviar Green
BackupNAS - Not yet built properly. Will consist of 2x 1TB Caviar Blacks for backing up the folding farm.
Passport - 500GB WD Caviar Black

    TorrentBox (server2)-

    Hotswap1 - 320GB WD Caviar Blue
    Hotswap2 - 320GB WD Caviar Blue
    Terabyte1 - 1TB WD Caviar Green
    Terabyte2 - 1TB WD Caviar Green
PrimaryDisk - 74GB WD Raptor (system)
SecondaryDisk - 250GB IDE Hitchi Deskstar

    +1 to sensible drive names:

C: "Win7" - Current OS; the name is a hangover from when I was migrating my live Vista to new Win 7 install
D: "Vista" - See above; I haven't yet got around to getting all my stuff off this partition and wiping it...
E: "Data" - Everything else; downloads, music, movies, TV shows, etc...

Plus one that's invisible to Windows: "Hackintosh". Guess what's on there... :thumb:

LOLLL they're not exclusive to the FRENCH farm you know.

    Le Cochon
    Le Mouton
    La Chèvre
    Le Poulet
    La Vache
    Le Cheval

Now they're French, they only need a Berret lol
