sorry if this is in wrong place, but i'm new here so go easy :p

What is this program you guys use to make models of your cases etc, i see a lot of people use it and they all look the same. So i presume they are done with the same program?
For example - what did this guy make these models with as i think they are awesome : http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=60672

I'm interested in making a few models of cases and the likes, but dunno how so if someone could help me greatly appreciated _b

This guy :)D) used 3D Studio Max to build that one. Its not the best program to build case models with as its not really a CAD program. It usually used more for animation and characters. I use it because its the package that I know best and I can quickly build basic models of things. And its not cheap :(

Most of the guys here use a program called Sketchup. Its a nice package for designing stuff and there is already a large collection of component models hanging around somewhere.

I know ZapWizard uses TrueSpace For his models. Never used this one myself but apparently its pretty good. The older versions are now free too.

There are other free 3d programs around, but I dunno how good they are. Blender, Maya PLE are a couple of examples.

I wouldn't recommend it...I think the administration frowns upon that kind of behaviour.

yer, dont start talking about illegal software on the forums, it makes the site look bad if all people talk about is dodgey software and stuff.

True space is quite good. 3DSM is a bugger to use

You think ? :D Its probably the most accessible professional grade 3d package around. Maybe I'm biased but I find it makes a lot more sense than Lightwave or Maya.

(PS if anyone starts ranting how Maya is the industry standard in 3D packages I am going to strangle them :D)

I prefer Maya to 3DSM anyday. It is just a matter of who the hell would use the other when they spend how many hours learning how to make a 3D box in one of these programs.
I like maya mainly because its set up a little more for the user than 3DSM and some of the texturing is amazing. like adding grass to a surface: just paint it on. I like that.

I dont deny that Maya is a good package, its just that I know Max a lot better and find Maya to be counter-intuitive. For instance, in Max if you want a box, you click where you want it and drag a box. In Maya, you click, it creates a box at (0,0) and you then have to move it, resize it, etc etc.

I just get annoyed with people who say crap like "But Maya is the industry standard." when quite frankly its not :D

No, it all is personal preference so what you use is up to you. I found maya easier, but i also had their tutorials. but thats just me
