Think my favorite aircooler was the Zalman CNPS9500, and it is the last one I used. There is a Zalman CNPS7700 still in operation since 2003 in my parents pc which was also a pretty good cooler in it's day. Otherwise my EK Supreme LT has gone through a few builds now and still going strong.
Somewhat OT, has anyone seen any reviews which have pitched TRUE against the newer giant coolers? If so, post a linky. I'd be somewhat intrigued to see whether the monsters with 20-something heatpipes and multiple 140mm fans work any better than ThermalRight's classic. I haven't really paid much attention to air coolers for the last couple of years, for obvious reasons.
Sure thing - this one is old but is still an interesting read. Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme vs. Others (Translated with Google Translate) The same guy (poparamiro) has tested the TRUE against the NH-D14 and the Silver Arrow too, but I can't find it... suffice to say there really wasn't much in it!
My favourite is probably my current cooler, the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Advanced. My most hated is easily the Cooler Master V10, I'm just glad I didn't buy it new.
The Scythe Mugen has worked for me quite well for years. It was relatively cheap when I bought it (about $30) and it performs admirably. That said, the Prolimatech Meghalem and Dark Rock were always ones I found nice to build with.
I like the Phanteks coolers. The colors are just fresh and the performance is definitely top notch. For all-in-one water coolers I like the Antec 920 best.
Oh the Scythe Big Shuriken, got that in a matx build, very low profile and very quiet while doing a good job. My favourite when it comes to the smaller form factor.
Fav all time cooler was a freezer 64 used it from my sempron2600 all the way up till i started over clocking my 955be (too hot) swapped for a mugen 2 rev b, Cool runnig but a mofo to put in
I loved the look of my 9700 LED but dang, it sucked when I tried to OC my Q9650... my first venture into TRUE territory smoked the Zalman by a good 15-20C and was cheaper LOL.
Alpha pal 8045. Awesome cooler and worked great with quiet fans and deltas for some overclocking. http://www.anandtech.com/show/825/4
Titan Fenrir I would have liked to use it in my next build, but it doesn't seem to be compatible with socket 1155; we'll see about that when the time comes though...
Got to be the AC Freezer 7/Freezer 64, great performance and pricing, was a game changer that influenced every good cooler since. Sent from Bittech Android app
Antec Kuhler 920 is by far my favourite. Noise isn't an issue for me. Due to the placement of my case and my TV I can only hear the 920's fans when they hit 2000+ RPM. Keeps everything nice and cool.
