Everyone inside of the M25 is considered to be on another planet so yall dont even class as english or humans. DR WHO has run since the dawn of time (at least as long as tv's have been around) RD is a 90's thing. although RD is VERY funny DR WHO is more serious. The english language is crap !. Comon how many english actualy under stand most of it? === === ===
I'm sensing you, AJB2K3 don't like the English seeing as you were a little rude in another thread? What's wrong with the English language? I and hundreds of millions across the planet understand English ok! The great thing about being British, fish and chips on fridays and sunday roast! - oh yea, and the fact we call toilets toilets rather than a bathroom!
exactly.....seriously who in the world dosent understand english other than the french! dammit my family 9,000miles away speak and understand english perfectly,so that dosent excuse people who live in europe very well.
Exactly..I mean, christ, its existed for about 1500 years, how long do they need? What excuse do they have for still speaking their silly languages like french, german, and italian...its about damn time everyone learned english so we don't ever have to be concerned that a country we goto might actually require some effort to fit in and get along at. Seriously though, the english language does have its positives, I imagine most people are just sticking up for it because its theirs, and don't really know the positives, but it does have some. For instance, it has the largest vocabulary out of all major world languages, by a factor of at least two. It is also considered to be abit of a common language across wider stretches of the world. That doesn't mean everyone should be expected to learn it though, I mean, German is an equally valid language to learn as a common language. Add this to the list though: What it means to be British - To have a feeling of superiority over just about everyone, regardless of justification, or lack of justification.
First off i Am english and have been for all of the 26 years ive been alive. second its probubly the biggest language in existance with hundreds of words that people dont even know exist and half adozen ways to spell the same word. wereas other countrys have a dozen words spelt the same way. Oh and please pardon me if i am being rude but with more and more bad drivers allowed on the road every day im getting more and more stressful and Mr wonka has noticed this appearing in my posts. Just for you im sorry about being rude.
other countries still speak their languages because they want to be different, using the euro in england would make it alot easier for going abroad but we dont use it because we want to be different, and the same for which side the driver is on and what side of the road they drive on. btw, they arent silly
Actually, English derives from old Dutch. And it has such a large vocabulary because over time it has borrowed and adopted so many words from other languages, such as Scandinavian and French.
Indeed, I don't think I said, or at least didn't mean to say, it came from anywhere else. Its a bit of a mongrel language really, with words coming from Munich to Rome to India, but you no doubt are aware of that Nexxo . An intresting language for sure, but I wouldn't have it replace many others ....maybe dutch though...so darn complicated
It may be complicated but when i went to holland we didnt even need to know dutch, just about everyone knew english and it was impeccable, i mistook some people for actual english, and even if they didnt know english they were quite happy to try, unlike some other countries where they couldnt be bothered if there was communication problems
Only Del Boy does that I really hate how ignorant the stereotypical "Brit" is. What we'd class as chavs are what gives us bad rep abroad.
I am pretty sure that the English language was actually derived from German, a lot of people would assume it comes from Latin, but the language structure of German and English is very similar, which is why it's actually easier to learn German than French (assuming you speak English natively), I don't know any German, but it looks horrendus to me, but someone did explain to me how he translate German to English and vice versa, and it seems pretty straightforwards, nothing like the French nonsense! But of course English is derived from more than one language, so I'm not denying English isn't derived from Dutch - keeping you in a bit of glamour there Although English has the most volcabulary, it isn't the largest language, Chinese is due to the vast population! But now Chinese children are learning English at school, English will soon be the most spoken langauge on the planet, but why I mentioned that I don't know! AJB2K3, I accept your apology
Don't be silly.. and in reply to the other guy, I don't put T' in front of everything, and I have perfect diction, a university education, and have no accent whatsoever... only the occasional flat vowel sound giving me away. You all watch too much Coronation Street. I lived in ANgel, Islington for ages, and to be honest, it's stupid. Nice place, but nothing to shout about, and I can rent a 4 bedroom house for what I paid for a 2 bedroom flat there. Who's laughing at who? In all honesty, i dont give a crap where people are from, but I displiek all regional accents, north or south.
English and Dutch are both Germanic languages. English is a Germanic language that derived from the Anglo-Saxon, with a heavy French influence from the Norman invasion. Wikipedia article on the English language. Wikipedia article on the Dutch language. -monkey
should we even start on American English as it has developed into a completely different language than regular english
Not really, it just has some more old fashioned words used(trash for instance), and some german manerisms, s'not that different an animal
i'd have to disagree, the languages at core are the same but the words used by the average citizen are completely different, we have different words and even some of the same words that are spelled and pronounced differently and that mean different things. some language programs are even being offered in UK English and American English edit: I say we get some impartial judges to decide
