I originally water cooled my pc because at the time it was so much quieter than any fan solution and as my room got rather hot it kept temperatures down. But now that Thermalright and Scythe have such quiet heat sinks, I might consider going back to air cooled on my next build.
Certainly true, with the adaption of heatpipes and larger heatsinks aircooling has become quite the viable alternative, which watercooling still has it´s benefits it´s no longer as clear as it used to be.
I did it purely for the fun and experience with a bit of overclocking on the side (using one of them there Pentim D's). To be honest it has now become too much hassle, and means any change becomes a major job which I don't have the time / facilities to do anymore. The case is acrylic so the water cooling kind of added a feature to it, but tbh it's too fragile for university use so I will be making a new setup for Uni with air cooling and more up to date stuff
Noise, and cooler temps. Not having to worry about temperatures and no change in fan speed (Just set to low and your set) Plus it looks way better.
It was fun to build (I made it), it look cool on my mod, and it work! (great temp and much better OC than stock cooler full of dust every 2 day)
noise 3 GTX8800's made a right din.. and the air cooled heat sink for the Q6850 was on full tilt constantly .. Oh and my pal in the pub said .. can't you do it is it too technical for you.... challenge was set.
