Yeah, I got hit with that recently because I've sold £2-3k on ebay this year. It's broken from the start though because that total includes everything I've sold since the beginning of the year, not the beginning of the tax year.

 

It's a flawed system, as the £1,000 limit is a 'trading' limit.
They don't differentiate between selling your old stuff that is not limited and stuff you've bought to make a profit on. It should be tax on the profit not turnover anyway...

 

Did you have to out all this on the self assessment because of this, so provide original receipts etc and show P+L? my stuff is all used, sold at a loss, granted not much of one because of the current market but zero profit.

 

It say sales exceeding £1707 in a calendar year but as one of my devices I am looking to sell is nearly double that it is easy to activate.

 

No. It literally just asked me to fill in my contact details and NI number.

 

Today, I decided to install the cheap Cyberpunk I got in the Steam sale a month or so back, but Steam refused to comply.

Then I realized that I'd forgotten to move Steam's library onto the 4TB SSD I got last Summer (pre-RAMpocalypse) - it had just been sitting there unmounted for an entire year!
I'd left Steam pointed at my /Home/Games directory, which was now too full for Cyberpunk to fit.

Added the SSD to /etc/fstab and Steam, moved other games across and Cyberpunk is now installing as I'd originally planned.

 

Just checked my Amazon orders, I bought a new internal optical drive, 9th February 2024. It was many months before I got round to fitting it and, I have yet to actually use it…

I buy music on CD, so I have hard copies, then rip to FLAC but, just not bought any for a long time.

 

Holy crap do not go to John Lewis in Cardiff on a Sunday when it’s a bank holiday weekend….

• Time taken to get there: 1 hour 5 minutes
• Time taken to get home: 26 minutes

One of those numbers is very much larger than the other… It was “1 in, 1 out” in the car park, it literally won’t raise the barrier if there aren’t any spaces. Which of course means traffic backed up for several miles in every direction.

Was lucky my OH decided to come along, she has a blue badge and we managed to find a space straight away.

 

I won't park in the JL car park unless I absolutely have to, I don't think I've ever been in there without queuing, even on a weekday. I tend to use park and ride, because it's quite convenient for me coming from the west. That said, I can't remember the last time I went to Cardiff city centre.

 

Finalised on our house sale at the beginning of Aug thus attempted to complete the change of circumstance form with the council to confirm we are no longer at the address.

Failed at the first hurdle as it didn't recognise the CT number on the account... great...

Called the council and they confirmed its down to the new unitary system and all of the details were taken (that would normally have been done via the form) and it was confirmed this had all been put against the account. They couldn't provide confirmation of this via email but I was assured it was all sorted.

Cue today and... you guessed it... they have taken another CT payment...

Tried the same form again and just like last time it doesn't recognise the CT number.

Now need to call them again to ask wtf they are doing....

 

Well, it’s definitely been a while, because there are no park & ride services into town any more. Bus passenger numbers struggled to recover after COVID lockdowns, so they were all axed.

The only one still operating is a short distance down the A48 to & from the hospital.

If you want/need to come in to Cardiff city centre then you’re driving in. That even applies to me on the outskirts of Cardiff, buses back & fore from where I am are absolutely laughable. I can drive to city centre in about 20 minutes in the morning; the bus journey in is at best 40 minutes, plus another 15-20 minutes to walk to the bus stop and then wait for the damn thing to turn up. I’d have to leave earlier, it would take three times as long, and that’s on a good day. Coming home is at least an hour and a half between getting up from your desk and walking in the front door; if there’s an event on, then allow 2-3 hours. Versus 20-30 minutes in the car.

 

If I hear another Mous advert on teh YouTubes, there will be effing murders.

 

I'm feeling the same about Trivago adverts with obvious AI slop mouths to make Americans look like they're saying pounds.

It's made me even less likely to ever use their website.

 

Wow. That really is a long time. Longer than I though it was.

 

Yeah but did you know they make backpacks and they aren't the cheap ones off Amazon....

 

At least you're doing better than the Derbyshire village that just had a damaged bus stop replaced, a mere 9 years after the only bus service was withdrawn.

Solicitors.

Thankfully we have the sellers number so we've probably sorted out more over text than our solicitors have in weeks.

I'm getting the feeling our solicitor was talking crap when they said they were waiting for searches.

I don't think they'd requested them when they said as they're still waiting on the local authority search. It's been well over time even if accounting for a generous backlog, which there isn't at the moment.

Nice lady at the council is going to see if she can find anything out for us.

But yeah. There's not even a chain of any kind and the English system is so painfully slow.

At this rate I just want to be in by Christmas. This year!

Update. OH spoke to the solicitor, very wise as I would have gone mental.

Yeah the delay in the searches was down to the staff handling that job leaving and it being missed. They've had to hurriedly arrange a date to have it within the next fortnight. I mean what the actual? Should have been requested two months ago.

The sellers solicitor has been equally as crap, barely any response from them for a while even though we know the seller has provided information.

Honestly, solicitors do their best to feck up house buying.

 

I must be misremembering, but I thought you were moving to Scotland?
