I think that’s a whole system cost, not just the RAM .

    But for context, Scan currently has 192GB (4x48GB) 5200 DDR5 RAM listed at…. £call.

The highest capacity kit they’ve actually listed a price for is 128GB (2x64GB) 6000 DDR5 at £2,500. But you can save a few quid if you want RGB sticks, because they’re only £2,460 :thumb:

If you want ECC then it gets sillier. There are no ECC “kits” listed, it’s all single sticks. Cheapest 64GB DDR5 stick is £2,400, and the cheapest 128GB stick is £5,400. If you can stomach dropping to DDR4 then it’s a bit better: £950 for 64GB and £1,560 for 128GB.

Yup Sorry Whole system price, It's just a little minisforum strix Halo with LPDDR5 8533, a normal speed for that sort of RAM, the 128GB now cost 3.3k which is obvioiusly stiff but 6.7k for 192 is quite a bump, I appreciate that is a lot of RAM and AIs but the reality is y9ou can't really do much awesome with large models in that RAM as the hardware GPU side is not fast enough, but you can run many smaller other using the RAM as it has a lot of threads etc.

Does make me wonder what the incoming Nvidia Spark laptop hardware is going to be I had my eye on the MSI 16N Flip or Lenovos similar 2 in 1 but if it is going to be priced up there, I just can't justify it as much as I might try.

I had intended to do a motherboard, CPU and RAM job, this year or next but, I have a very strong aversion to paying through the nose at taking-the-piss prices.

AM4 and DDR4 will do for a while longer...

    Same with my i5-12400F.

I can easily do an in-place upgrade to a faster CPU, but anything “more modern” needs DDR5.

Hell, even spinning bloody rust hard drives are seeing price increases because of the inflated price of SSDs.

And now we learn that the memory cartel is locking customers into 5-10 year-long commitments, meaning it ain’t gonna get any better any time soon.

Cool. Cool cool cool. Nice. Great. Just absolutely bloody fantastic.

Oh that’s going to happen, too - it’s fundamentally unsustainable.

But that’s going to be very very painful, too. It’ll make the dotcom collapse look like a storm in a teacup.

Damn, makes me glad I did the switch to DDR5 3 years back, what I bought for £105 (32gb) is now £520, what a time to be alive.

A knobhead of a spammer, keeps trying to tell me my direct debit to TV Licencing has been unsuccessful. Not only are there plenty of clues in the emails, pointing to them being spam, my wife qualifies for a free license.:duh:

When I establish my Reich, an international extermination force will be founded to eliminate spammers around the world. Preferably with methods involving fire and pliers.

I could use another spinny rust, but the price has gone up somewhat in the last 12 months.

    @Pete J
Please add scammers to your Reich list while you're at it.
It only involves cut 'n paste and substitution of one letter

A quick look on Hackster shows new articles published under his name with the most recent 4 days ago, granted these could possibly have been submitted in advance, while he buggered off for a holiday or something.

I had noticed that he’d gone a bit quiet in recent months, but he still popped up every now and then. Despite not being online here for a while, as @Zoon says he’s still putting stuff out there for his paid gigs.

I assume that “real life stuff” just got in the way a bit. When you work as many hours as he does, it’s not going to take much of a bump in life’s road to eat into one’s free time. It could also be crunch time on another book.

I did think about reaching out directly, but I don’t think it’s at that point yet.

Yeah I was presuming life has just caught up with Gareth, it happens.

Hopefully it's just busy, exciting or annoying stuff.

After enjoying the last few years at a very low fixed rate mortgage rate (more luck and laziness than any financial acumen), it is time to pay the piper.

Went with a two year tracker as it was a decent chunk lower than fixed, which my financial advisor (and friend) is going to be annoyed about as he advised me to go fixed, even with the mental rates they're charging. Just have to hope everything settles down in the next couple of years. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............................
