Really shitty low mood this morning. No motivation to do anything at all. Have tried to force myself to get some work done all morning, but it just isn’t happening. Doesn’t help that I woke up several times last night and struggled to get back to sleep each time, so I woke up feeling like utter crap from the get-go.
Worked away at girlfriends as the office is getting new desks, come to office today, only removed 1 section of desks! I could have stayed at least another week easily ffs!
Our MD at work (the one and only person who can tell me what to do there) has just told me to give unrestricted access to the system we use for training documentation and other forms we use regularly, to an external person/entity. I warned heavily against this as it's a recipe for utter disaster, one that would take me days to fix if it all went belly up. It's alright though, because he trusts said person
As @Byron C says, you need some physical cover your arse paper(e)trail. I'd also make it clear your objection. Then I'd crack on and wait till it goes mammaries up. That'll be the time to deploy the raised 'you don't say' eyebrow when the fan is spreading excrement.
Mental health has been noooooo bueno today. No real reason, came back from a holiday and had a really good time with family. A series of late nights has probably not helped it. Just could have happily binned off today but powered on regardless. Hopefully a good nights sleep will sort me out
Running the numbers* and coming to the inescapable conclusion I should be on £10K more a year than I'm currently on. And yet my team manager didn't even finish his HND. *Comparing my previous wages, inflation, and no wage increase since 2019 (even going backwards thanks to Covid). As well as looking through the job market.
Careful with this line of thinking. Over the course of my career(s) I've seen very little correlation between formal education and the ability to do the job. Might be more a factor for some specific jobs, of course - not sure I'd trust a "doctor" who didn't have a medical degree
Yeah it depends on the field. In many, stupidity and ineptitude are promoted to positions where they can do less damage and not cause more problems.
Ahh, sorry, didn't mean to imply that higher education was the end all and be all. But in this particular case, it's hard to not notice that the basics of engineering understanding are not there - which given we work in engineering, is a little bit...grating.
Oh I think I went off on a general tangent, didn't sleep much last night. Definitely, if I need some engineering done I want someone trained and not just a baker with a ruler. Yeah, like I say, didn't get much sleep.
Getting really annoyed at what I am going to call the general ensh**ification of communication and doing the bare minimum in a job.. Having to deal with Suppliers who just send in invoices with no context and then when queried (as invoice already received two weeks ago) just reply with "just checking you received it".... How about asking that on the ******* communication then... Also being chased for payment and when confirming that we have already paid they come back with "Oh yes, can see payment".... how about doing the bare minimum and checking BEFORE you send a chaser...
The cynic in me thinks they may have been hoping you were overworked enough to not notice, and pay them twice in both scenarios...
one of those days where i'm not sure if there's something up with my hearing, my headphones or the thing im listening to... but everything seems... off-balance...
Today absolutely sucked, but I'm getting a crap (for your health, not your tastebuds) for dinner so... Not all bad.
