Ahh, sorry, didn't mean to imply that higher education was the end all and be all. But in this particular case, it's hard to not notice that the basics of engineering understanding are not there - which given we work in engineering, is a little bit...grating.

Oh I think I went off on a general tangent, didn't sleep much last night.

Definitely, if I need some engineering done I want someone trained and not just a baker with a ruler.

Yeah, like I say, didn't get much sleep.

Getting really annoyed at what I am going to call the general ensh**ification of communication and doing the bare minimum in a job..

Having to deal with Suppliers who just send in invoices with no context and then when queried (as invoice already received two weeks ago) just reply with "just checking you received it".... How about asking that on the ******* communication then...

Also being chased for payment and when confirming that we have already paid they come back with "Oh yes, can see payment".... how about doing the bare minimum and checking BEFORE you send a chaser...

The cynic in me thinks they may have been hoping you were overworked enough to not notice, and pay them twice in both scenarios...

Just dropped a few K on a two week cruise, only for the missus to say she has absolutely nothing to wear and will need to spend a significant amount of money on new clothes.

Shoulda seen that coming. Rookie mistake.

Contract at work has been extended 3 months. Thats good because I'll be kept in a job till Christmas, but very much a sign that I'm not in their long term plans and I need to get a permanent job elsewhere. Got one interview in a couple of weeks, waiting on another role someone essentially decided to create after interviewing me for a slightly different role, and got a call today for a job at a different housing association doing exactly what I do now, but paying nearly half what I currently get.

I'll admit it's slightly over the odds for someone with no qualifications, but have all the experience and knowledge lacking from candidates with qualifications getting similar jobs and paid about 1/3 more. It's a very difficult situation, and one I need to rectify asap. just need to find £3k to get the qualifications :worried:

If she really wanted to make you suffer she'd buy the stuff on the boat.

    Sod that.

We've cruised and avoid the dressed up places full of knobs going on and on about nothing.

We treat it like a travelling buffet that buses you to places you want to go while you're asleep.

    Great way to travel. :thumb:

Been thinking of taking the missus on a cruise next year. Any cruise companies you'd recommend? Any tips?

We always liked TUI ones because they were smaller than the massive behemoths but haven't been with them since they stopped doing northern Europe.

I'll have to check with my OH later which other company(ies) we've been with, can't remember myself. Not been for a few years, last was a Baltic trip, so long ago we had a stop off in Russia :eyebrow:

Main tip, if you don't mind figuring out what you want to do it's worth arranging yourself beforehand. The cruise sites often say what they offer at each port of call.

For example, when we went to Iceland we booked direct with the company online for whale watching. Those that paid as an excursion with the cruise ended up on the very same boat paying about twice as much

I don't think she was talking about cocktail dresses. Just grasping the opportunity to spend a chunk on new clothes, with a vague "I got to at least look presentable" argument.

I mean, I'll be buying new clothes too, albeit mainly Tees and shorts.

    Ah ha, understood.

You'll be needing new luggage too

@Idioteque I think the other company was cruise and maritime.

It was ok but preferred TUI tbh. We've always done balcony rooms too (the last one had a hammock outside on the balcony). Really is nice to have your own bit of private outside space.

I can't quite remember when we bought them, I think there's a couple of optimum times - near release sometimes there's a two for one offer and if there's still spaces a month or two out before departure I seem to recall us getting good deals.

Fancy another one to take in Svalbard, Iceland and maybe Greenland. Won't be for a good while though, too much on unfortunately.

I was walking down to the post office but the rain really started up so I've stopped part way in the pub. Hopefully the rain will ease up as I finish my pint, or I'll be having another. You have to take the rough with the smooth in life.
