Got rushed to hospital on Monday from my doctors with suspected septis, couldn't breathe very well so was on oxygen,3 days in hospital and they found out I had pneumonia and had a large shadow in my left lung so I'm on antibiotics for two weeks then got to have a xray to make sure the dark patch has gone, also found out I'm diabetic so that's a big life change for me now, after almost feeling like I was going to die it has opened my eyes to looking after myself now.
I know what that’s like, I’ve had pneumonia, coughed so much I cracked a rib. This year when I went for annual blood tests, I was offered a vaccination for pneumonia, which I accepted. Qualified for it because of age, 58 then in May.
Diabetes is one of those things that I am getting more and more concerned with. At the risk of putting too much of a downer on the discussion… My father was about my age (41) when he found out he had diabetes. Over the next 15 or so years, he really struggled to manage it and had all sorts of health complications as a result. Later on, it affected his kidneys and liver to the point where he developed liver cancer. That cancer spread and became terminal. I had a battery of blood tests recently as part of getting my blood pressure medication sorted out, and thankfully there’s no indication of diabetes at this point - my blood sugar levels are fine. But it’s something that concerns me a lot going forward. I really need to be much better with what I eat, and how much of it I eat, these days. Especially as I have mild hypertension and need medication to control it. Thankfully my ADHD meds are making a huge difference in regards to my relationship with food, but that’s a story for another thread. But I still definitely need to do better with what I eat, and this is going to be a lifelong thing going forward. As I said, I don’t mean to put such a downer on things. I think my point is more that I can definitely sympathise when it comes to diabetes. Hope your pneumonia is on the mend soon.
Especially with the price of booze and cigarettes these days. Last time I bought any it was about £16 for a pack of 20 cigarettes, and minimum unit pricing on alcohol has made “a few beers after work” into a £30-£50 minimum spend. It’s cheaper to take illegal drugs.
This but Yodel, I needed to restock on some brown void paper so always go to the same seller. I don't know why but my Yodel driver has absolutely no sense of direction... everyone finds my address (DPD, UPS, EVRI, Royal Mail) with zero issues excluding him. Its quite rare I get anything coming from Yodel but every time I do its days late because he can't find it "Do you know your postcode takes me out to here" Nope... absolutely impossible, I don't know how you keep getting it wrong.... the postcode for the location he says he ends up is completely different. He's not even in the correct town! Same story, expected paper Saturday and the tracking says "We need some more information about your address. Please chat with us" chat with them today and its apparently out for delivery again... edit: supposed to be delivered by 12:17 and still not here... lost again
Just tried to fit a new firebrick for our wood stove ready for winter. The new one is 20mm too tall. Annoying thing is I contacted the manufacturer and ordered from them direct but they advised me a specific part. I now realize that the part number they gave me is for the wood burning only version where, as we have the multi fuel. I even gave them my serial number and they confirmed the model is a multifuel. Not world shattering but I cleaned everything, stripped it all down and now have to leave it disassembled until I get the new part.
Got a honker of a spot coming up right on my nose. Been using lotion and all sorts desperately trying to stop it but no joy. Wouldn’t usually care but am going on holiday on Sunday ffs.
