I just love sitting on HGV Highway, crawling along at barely 10mph in almost solid traffic, it really brightens my life. What makes it even better is being graced with the simply undescribable aroma from nearby industrial facilities: there's nothing quite like the mingled smells of recycling plant furnaces (plus their slag deposits) and the collective fecal output of Cardiff's residents. It truly is something to behold.

I drive that journey twice a day, 3-4 times a week, and I get to spend at least half of the 40 minute trip enjoying the life-altering delights of HGV Highway.

    I truly am #blessed.

If you know Cardiff then you might have already guessed that I'm talking about Rover Way. You also might have guessed that I'm absolutely not being sarcastic about the smell: it really is hard to put into words, it has to be smelled to be believed.

Oh, and, also: they've put a cycle lane on it. A cycle lane... on Rover Way... The most filthy, most disgusting, most debris-strewn, and smelliest road that I can think of in Cardiff... and they put a ****ing cycle lane on it...! :hehe: Mate, no one's gonna cycle down there! :hehe: The white plastic barriers they put out when they started work a few weeks ago are already utterly minging! :hehe: Christ, what a jobsworth effort at a 'green initiative' that was! :hehe:

Sounds like some of the cycle lane initiatives around here... putting the lanes where no-one cycles and/or no-one is ever likely to...

Cars struggle with some of the hills/inclines around here even in moderately wet weather, never mind snow/ice... Some MAMIL on a bicycle has no chance...

    Sure would be!

Bit of a problem in the ol' "weight differential" and "power to weight ratio" departments though. Roughly 100-120kg of bicycle+rider is just a tad lighter than a 3-axle rigid box trailer that weighs roughly 8,600kg to 31,400kg (depending on the load).

It's unavoidable really. This road links up to the major road routes coming in & out of Cardiff (specifically, A4232, A48, and M4), and it's the only road link to a lot of heavy industrial areas and the various sea ports. It also happens to be the most sensible and sane route between my office and my home. There are alternatives, but they either take twice as long or go twice the distance.

It's smelly, it's dirty, and gross, and I hate driving/riding it. But while I work where I do, it's the only realistic option.

But that doesn't preclude me from having a whinge on the forum :thumb:

    My unwelcome visitor is back!

    Same error code

I did take it into the garage the other week, saying it could be the o2 sensors instead of the actual cat, but all they did was put some cat flush in the fuel tank and give it a blast through. I could have done that myself ffs . At least they didn’t charge me much, I guess…

If I had access to a suitable lift or inspection pit, I’d do the flipping o2 sensors myself… I don’t trust myself to jack it up onto axle stands and then slide under it…

I wish I had your mistrust of getting under a car, had some bum twitching moments over the years but I'm still here, I have spare wheels that I stick under the car now for some extra reassurance

It’s not necessarily getting under a car that I don’t trust, it’s my competence in ensuring it’s supported safely and isn’t going to crush me

You'd have to try very hard to get a car to fall off of axle stands, even Mr Clumsy didn't manage that! The set I used to have, were rated at 1.5 tonnes each.

    Still no interwebz.

BT still with an outage that they hoped would be sorted by today. It's not.

Any much longer and it'll go from being an annoyance to an extreme hinderance.

Mobile signal is so bad here I usually have to bounce off the WiFi to get a phone signal. No 2FA for anything if I could get online for more than a second.

As it is I'm in one particular corner of the bathroom where I can actually get a data and phone signal for the odd minute.

Pfft. Donkey balls. I'm going to go and shout at the moon.

Is it poor service on all networks? In the past I've stuck a second SIM in my phone, £10 gets you a month of data which is a small price to pay for connectivity.

Yeah we're in a rental in the dip of farm land.

Am actively checking networks and fibre coverage for any potential houses my OH finds to potentially buy

Got the lurgy. Had it since Sunday.

It's only like a heavy cold, but I have no energy - I'm crashing after being out og bed for a couple of hours and then waking up in a cold sweat.

    Rinse and repeat.

THought I was OK last night, but back to square one this morning. Getting really pigged off with it now.

So after waiting ~5 months for a reply from people we were supposed to be buying a house from we got a not great response. Previously, their solicitor had said they were waiting on a related property, then silence. About 10 days ago we got a response through saying there is no related property and there never was, the sellers have nowhere to go, it will take longer. We responded along the lines of, mortgage offer is due to expire we will not renew.
During the silence we had been keeping an eye out on alternatives. We have just had an offer accepted on another property. This one is empty so should be less waiting. Its going to cost £50,000 more but it is a lot more house, so..

Attitiude off a collegaure because I explained that when I have to direct an action to another support team that the turnaround time varies to get a reply "you did it same day for other person".
Don't be a prick, I review the problem and not everything is fixed by me, I pass along with the info and request the fix, they may do quick, they may not, I have no control and it is not escalation worthy.

Whats annoyng is I have a workaround but I don't want to use it right now whilst I cool down!
I was messaged on Teams when this should be an email request and I stopped what I was doing to read it and help which is distracting from projects

Right that's all cables and adapters with the abbreviation "HDMI" yeeted from my place (read: connectors cut off and binned). No idea why that standard is so fragile... Doesn't matter if its say HDMI-DVI cable or DP-HDMI adapter or whatever, it will break

Anything that's straight up DVI-D to DVI-D or DP-DP simply work for ages

Going to catch up with people I used to work with.

On the one hand, I’m kinda looking forward to it. Generally they’re a great bunch and it’s been 18 months since I really caught up with them.

On the other hand, the Six Nations starts today and Wales v France is the first match, kicking off at 2045. And I’m going into the city centre of Wales’ capital, which is notorious for being absolute bedlam even on the match days when Wales are playing away. Great.
