    Hi

I'm looking for a device / appliance I can use to stream media with. I'm looking for:

    • HDMI output
    • iPlayer
    • Play files from Airport Extreme Shared Disc
    • Wide file format / encoding compatibility (mp4, mv4, avi, mkv etc)
    • WiFi or Cat5 OK
    • Airplay would be nice

Ideally I'd like to do all of this in one device, but I'm not such a thing exists.

If the 'perfect device' doesn't exist then I might go with an Apple TV. I can stream from any of the iPads or MacBooks in the house and be done with it.

    Ideas?

Apple TV sounds about right, if you jailbreak it you can get wider file support.
You could have a look at the WD TV live streamer if the ATV doesn't work out.

Or, as suggested by adam build it yourself and put something like xbmc on it :thumb:

Does it need to do 1080p as the apple TV2 is limited to 720p, and the TV3 is not jailbreakable yet.
