hey everybody, i'm just finishing up my first build and thinking about my next. i think my P2 350MHz SLOT CPU computer could use an upgrade.

I am very fond of XP, i had it for a few months and it served me well. but is there something better? something better, faster, i can rebuild it, i have the technology... (sorry, that line always makes me laugh).

i read a lot on Lindows OS, the ads and paid (read: Bribed) reviewers made it sound like it was the best thing since the thing before sliced bread, but then the individual reviews made my heart sink, apparently sliced bread is a better OS...

i really only go on the net and play games, i don't need CAD capabilities or anything, but i would like to play DVD's on my 19" monstrosity monitor.

Try running one of the many free linux distributions (I've heard some bad things about Lindows (called Linspire now, btw)). I doubt XP would run very well on that machine anyway. It will definately allow you to surf the net and watch DVD's easily.

tbh if you are going to be playing games then a flavour of windows would be best (in saying that a lot of games are Linux compatible).
But Windows 98se would suit your specs

In that case I'd go with XP Pro

Ah, sorry, I read wrong. XP probably would be best. And I thought you meant you play web games or something. If you're playing real games ( :p ) like Half Life, WoW, any other game of that sort, you pretty much have no choice but to go with XP.

my favorite games are RTS's. i can spend two days straight (minus food runs to the kitchen and going to the bathroom) playing command and conquer skirmishes.

once i was lucky enough for my family to go camping without me. unfortunately i am not popular enough to have a party and my GF's parents knew we were going camping (read: she couldn't come over)

LOL. You've got to plan a meeting somewhere else then. :D

You definately want to go with Windows if you play RTS games. You can usually only play them on Windows.

her mom is a little weird, we tried to go to the "movies" once, she was actually going to come over (my mom kinda leaves us alone, and my dad is at the bar too damn much), but her mom didn't want to be left alone, so we went to the movies :grr:
