    Hi

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, I'm new round here.
Looking to build a gaming rig and possible a dabble at overclocking. Any recommendations for a good P35 775 motherboard would be a great start.

A board that has raid support without needing a separate controller would be good.

    Thanks

I'm going to be ordering a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R in a couple of weeks, it's cheap (very cheap for what it is) has many SATA ports and practically everything I want. I hear the overclocking is pretty decent, search for it on here for a good review. I may post how well mine does aswell.

I wish I had spent the extra 50 quid and gone for that board it was one of the boards I originally looked at, saved the money on the board so I could get the 8800gt dont know if it was wise now as it does not look like i have any overclocking options on my board
I look forward to your post on the board

Yeah I can't wait to switch to Intel, I've read quite a bit about the board and it is deffinitely value for money and I try and do everything as cheaply as possible. I'm going for the E8400 aswell so I will see how well the 2 work together

You must have got the DP35DP for a bargain price if it was £50 cheaper than a GA-P35-DS3R. Just looked at prices for the DP35DP and they are up around the £70 mark.

DS3R - Great board if you don't want to use S3 standby.

Does anyone know what bios version the GA-P35-DS3R is likely to come with if it's new stock? I'm not hugely confident when it comes to bios flashing.

I'm looking to Gigabyte for my next mobo as well.
You may want to look at the newer EP35-DS3R, as the power-saving features designed into it are specifically designed for Wolfdale (E8xxx) CPUs.
It's only an extra fiver too. :thumb:

Isn't the abit IP35 board a good OCer?
And isn't there a -E model that's cheaper but equally good for OCing?

Not 100% sure, just seem to remember reading it somewhere. :)

paid R1050 for the intel board which is about 68 quid
DS3R board was about R1900 about 125 quid

checked price now its still R1913 so price has not changed here over last couple of months at todays rate thats about 120 quid

How much is the board there? I know the answer will break my heart .. just like the 50 quid we pay here for an arctic pro 7 cooler thats about 15 quid over there

Is it likely to be a wasted call if I phoned Scan to enquire about what bios version new stock of GA-P35-DS3R is shipped with?

EP35 has 8 usb ports on the back too :) Missing the serial and parralel ports to make space.

I'd be really happy with mine if it wasn't for the S3 standby problem (hopefully sorted with a BIOS at some point) and the fact that it doesn't do DTS connect or DD live onboard, even though it has the hardware for DTS connect. Gigabyte skimped on the license for this "budget" board.

yes, & they are both under £60 on SCAN Today Only today - £59 for a board with ICH9R & firewire is hard to beat & it does 500fsb plus ...
