well, you are still going to have a failed flash so yes, hope that the bootblock isn't gone or that you can boot from a backup BIOS, replace the BIOS chip etc. point was that if you have a power cut during BIOS flashing using any method it's not good.
Oh, I thought your original point was about what I (or others?) thought the outcome would be if flashing from DOS when there is a power cut?
doesn't matter whether it's in DOS or not, you'll get the same result if you have a power cut mid-flash (& don't have an UPS).
So in your view, having a dual BIOS makes no difference to the outcome of a bad flash then, i.e. it wouldn't sort itself out?
So don't start a flash in the middle of a thunderstorm or when there's a bloke outside digging up the road.
or buy Abit IP35 Pro (need to check to see if -E have it) their BIOS chip is not hard soldered on so that if BIOS flash fails, just take out the BIOS chip, and find a new one
I'm nearly overtaking your thread here Yotta. I either want the EP35-DS3R or the GA-P35-DS3R. The Abit IP35 Pro is out of my price range but what about the Abit IP-35, Dark Raider, or even the Abit IP35-E, or possible even a rendition of the Asus P5K. Preferably nothing above £70 but will stretch to £80 Edit: Forgot, I will be going with an E8400 so will need 45nm support
No, you'll still have a bad flash but you may be able to recover from it more easily (not guaranteed if you read the Asus & Gigabyte forums). As mentioned at least on an abit you always have the last resort of replacing the BIOS chip which many other mobo mfrs no longer can do as they are using cheaper, soldered ones. DaveVader, at the under £60 price that SCAN often sell the IP35 it's tremendous value for a P35 board with ICH9R & firewire & it overclocks well.
I like the idea of the easily removable BIOS chip. Do you know if it's just the IP35 Pro version, or do the IP35 and IP35-E also have it? Also would there be much better overclocking potential with the pro version and its heatpipe set-up compared to the other two, or is it just more features? Not sure if uGuru would make much difference, does it just give access to setting that otherwise would have to be changed in the BIOS? Just trying to weigh up whether the pro is worth the extra cash.
I am so in the same situation as you Yotta, you are asking the questions I want answering I'm keeping a good close eye on this
Dave, glad to be of some use. When I've finally decided on mobo, there could be several more threads, like CPU, RAM, GFX etc.
accord to this page pictures seems like all Abit iP35 range have removable BIOS chip. i think uGuru has everything you need for all those boards
I read some reviews of the Abit IP35 "Dark Raider", some praise it, some don't. So it is either this bored or the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R, These boards are very similar so all I really want to know, is which has the best overclocking potential. This will sway it for me, so if anyone has either boards (or possible both) then tell me your thoughts
The DFI UT P35-T2R is a killer overclocker. I want to push my Q6600 further, but i need to find better cooling first Edit: My friend has a Abit IP-35 Pro, and with the same cheap 1.6ghz core 2 duo chip, i was able to push it a little further in my board. Were both multi boot guys, and he gets really angry with his Abit because it doesn't have a boot selector. The DFI does.
That board is double what I want to pay at the moment though, It may be good but being a 17 year old with little money (and a tight fist) I am not prepared to shell out £140 on a mobo
