I am about to get a power supply for my pc. I am after strong rails (adjustable would be nice) and sufficient power. I managed to find the fortron 550 in the uk but a bit expensive so we have:

    1) Fortron 550
    2) Antec True Control
    3) Antec True Power 550
    4) TTGI 520
    5) Tagan 480

    Please i need your suggestions

Comes down to the Tagen or Zalman 400B, all the others are solid but noisy/expensive. The Tagen gives out 480W and is a smidge cheaper than the Zalman but has a slight ticking noise (other forum members noticed it, do a search. Its not supposed to very audiable though). The Zalman is silent but a touch more than the Tagen. I really don't see why you need over 400w. Even if you use watercooling and the new nVidia 6800 Ultra I can't see you needing more than 400w (on a good supply that is, I wouldn't trust a cheap 500w with that combination!). Both the Zalman and Tagen have absolutely rock solid rails and will form the basis of a great system for years to come. Best prices in the UK (to my knowledge) are:

    Zalman
    www.tekheads.co.uk £66.39

    Tagen
    www.tekheads.co.uk £61.10
    www.overclockers.co.uk £61.69
    www.scan.co.uk £61.68

    Good Luck :hip:

Just ordered the tagan for my mate.

Reading reviews it does look like an awsome psu. Rock solid performance, very powerful and silent.

Hes just gone off to collect it so should be fiting for him 2moro. Will have a listen for the lil ticking noise, lol. Im intrigued now.

    Proph.

The Fortron, without a doubt. Now that they're available in this country, hopefully more people will realise just how great they are ;) All the pots you could hope for inside to tweak to your heart's content, silent as death, and great rails.

Kam, I found the server model. The fsp550 which doesnt have 4pin 12v connector and has the 24pin connector instead of the normal 20pin. What do you think? i cant find the fsp 530 in the uk. how about the ttgis?

    imo, its between
Globalwin Sapphire Super Silent 19dBA 520W
    Antec TrueBlue 480w
    Tagan 480w
or the antec 550 true power or true control

tbh if i was you i would get the trueblue 480w
    or the 550watt antecs

we all know antec are good, and both PSUs have been around a while, so we know they aint all gonna commit mass suicide in 6months, lol

dunno about the fortron or ttgi, i have had no experience with them.

The Fortrons look great - pretty expensive though and not available that widely in the UK.

Have to say I've been more than happy with my Antec TrueBlue 480 - wish it had adjustable pots though...

I was thinking about the server ATX plug problem yesterday, actually - y'see, the servers at work use 450W Fortron PSUs, but they again have the 24-pin ATX plug and 8-pin P4 plug. D'ya reckon it'd be possible to swap out the plugs for normal ones, and just remove the unnecessary pins? Or does it not work like that... :worried:

The only difference between a 24-pin and 20-pin ATX connector is that the 24-pin has an extra line for each of the positive rails and ground on the right side (looking at connector, tab up) of the connector in a 2x2 square. For the other 20, it looks like a straight pass-through (at least according to the 20->240-pin connector that came with my PSU).

Luurverly. And the 8-pin/4-pin difference is just two extra of 12v and ground each, IIRC. I'll have to see about failing one of those PSUs off into my pocket, then :p

My vote goes to Antec True 550. You would have to mod it, or it will explode on you sooner or later. The thing is that it has a fan controller system, but it's crap-o-matic, so it will fail in a matter of weeks. Then it will go up in smokes. What you do is hook up those fans to a molex plug (you have to open up the PSU, yes, voiding the warranty.

As for the rest of them, they are all good power supplies, although i'm not sure about a couple. Anyway, buy whichever is cheaper :)

nVidia reccomends a 480 watt PSU for their new card, but they are probably saying cheap ones that never reach 480 after the immediate turn on.

Yeh Tagan gets my vote too (only cos i own one and its great) - the market is full of great PSUs tho, so pretty much any that youve mentioned should be just fine :)
