I personally like ASUS. I've used ASUS in 90% of my builds, and always regret it when I don't. But that's me :)

how many cores do yo want your proc to have, how much do you want to spend on mobo and processor. remember if you go with i7 the whole build will be much more expensive

How much cores. Not to sure at moment.

Need system for running muilti programs and doing work in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Microsoft Expression Web studio and also other things like watching and encoding movies listening to music plus gaming.

    $1500 to $2000. New Zealand $'s

That would be: $880 US, $1000 CAD, $1230 AUS

    Need:
    CPU
    MOBO
    RAM
    GPU
    PSU

Also dont forget. matx. Also grahics card i can only have up to 10.5" long

I have the rest of the gear allready.

Edit. Just looked up the cost on the i7 cpu. :O F**k me. Think i will just stay with 775

You could go with a smaller PSU, no need for 750W. A 500-600 watter would be enough.

    As for graphics card, maybe a 4870 (1GB) or a 4850.

I have a 4870 personally, and it's as long as my motherboard (Asus P5Q Pro, I think it's standard ATX size). Plus of course the PCI-E power cables.

Don't know the exact length, though. :(

Also: wouldn't it be worthwhile to get a less expensive processor?

    The 9550 is £260, the i7 920 is £240.

You could get a Q6600 for £150 and use the spare £100 to get a better graphics card, more ram, etc, or save a little more and get an i7 system.

Yeh was thinking about the i7 but there is no matx board out for it yet apart from the DFI board thats just about out. I have asked for a eta and cost of it from sum shop in NZ still waiting for replys. plus the total cost of a i7 would cost more then a 775 system wouldnt it.

Still no point in spending £20 on a dead end LGA775 processor. Get the Q6600 and spend the difference on a better graphics card, more ram, whatever. It'll overclock to 3Ghz+ nicely and perform just as well as the Q9550.

The difference in performance even at stock speeds isn't worth the extra £110.

    ^ What he said.

Also I've owned both DFI and ASUS boards and to my mind they're pretty similiar but with ASUS you get more features. Think of ASUS as a premium version of DFI.

yeh i seen the asus can run 16gb ram and the DFI can only do 8gb not that i would do 16gb ram.

kind of a toss up of the asus or the dfi. over here there is only like a $30 price diff of the 2

Would i be better off with the asus and get 1 mint a graphics card. Or get the DFI board and get a mint grahics card and later get a 2 grahics card. ?

Like would the DFI be more future proof?

    I'd go with the Asus.

The PCI-E slot on the DFI is limited to 8x, not 16x even though that's what slot it is physically.

If you're going crossfire, go for the DFI, but if you're gonna be using one card, go for the Asus, since they offer the full 16x for their single PCI-E slot.

You'll probably get a better overclock with the DFI as well, if that's what you're planning to do.

Not really looking at overclocking it. Mainly because of heat and limited size cooler. case as 2 120mm front fans. Also the PSU fan can be used to suck heat away from the cpu.

Would i be better off doing crossfire with the DFI then having a single card.?

In the end what would give me more graphic proformace on 2x 22" lcd moniters running both on dvi.

Would i be best to go and spend a lot on 1 really mint card like a SAPPHIRE 100243-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express
or buy 2 good cards like SAPPHIRE 100244L Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express
    ?

I'd go for the better single card. Some games don't make use of Crossfire as well as others yet, and you never get double the performance even though it costs twice as much.

The GTX 280 is available at OcUK for just over £200.

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-143-LT

Considering that the GTX260 216+ is £200 odd, that is a steal right there. Get it. It'll beat the 1GB 4870 into the ground.

Yeah, that's the same one. Ouch, big difference over there.

Go for the Radeon in that case.
