    Hi All,

I have been looking into RAM overclocking and it seems that that brand of chip on each RAM module is quite important when looking at its OCing potential.

I have 4 X 1GB sticks of Corsair XMS2 which comes with preapplied heatspreaders.

I would like to know how I can tell what specific chips have been used so that I can confirm what the chip manufacturer says they can run at, not what Corsair say they can run at.

From what I have read I should be hoping they are made by Micron but i dont see how i can ever find out.

Is it possable to remove the heatspreaders without breaking the chips or not being able to apply it again whilst maintaining the thermal effectivness?

    Please help

    Thanks for the quick replies,

I have had a look at CPU-Z and it only has the brand name of the module, not the name of the chip manf.

Under the "SPD" tab it has manufacturer.
Do corsair not have there own silicon fabs for the modules?

I have checked that very tab and it does say Corsair.

I didnt think they made their own chips?

Despite it saying Manufacturer in CPU-Z I think it's actually reporting the Vendor. You could try the Corsair Forum and ask the RAM GUY if it's identifiable from the numbers on the label http://www.asktheramguy.com/v3/index.php

I generally ask questions about Memory on the 'Compatibility Questions' section.
