As the title suggests I am looking for the best ram choice possible for an Asus A7N8X-deluxe. Right now I'm thinking of corsair pc2700 cas 2 512ddr w/silver heat spreader... the code is cmx512-2700c2pt. I know I should get 2x 256 for dual channel, but I may want 1024 eventually... buying 1x512 right now will leave the option of simply adding another 512 stick later. Am I being silly? Is running the ram in dual channel that much better? What ram would work best with this mobo and a barton 2500?
to be a bit more future proof, I'd go for at least PC3200 ram, if not PC3500, especially if you're getting a barton 2500, you'll want lots of FSB if you're overclocking. you can't go wrong with corsair, twinmos (winbond variety) will get you to around 210fsb, mushkin (I'll let you know my results when it arrives), also look at geil and OCZ, ADATA is pretty good for some cheapish ram, the choice is really yours
I've heard that pc2700 actually runs a bit faster for some things because 3200 and up can't run at cas 2... is this true? Or is it true only if you are not overclocking?
I've got corsair XMS3200 twinx 2x 256mb and that runs at cas 2. And thats on my Asus A7N8X deluxe also got my FSB upto 400. Running a xp3000+ CPU..
I'm having trouble with the twinmos, getting it to run over 200fsb with cas2622, it's only designed to run 2.5-3-3-8 (If I remember back to before I changed anything in my bios), but the ram that is designed to run at cas2, such as Mushkin's level 2 PC3500 will run cas2622 until around 230fsb nice review of the mushkin is over on Anandtech they also take a look at all of the other top RAM in quie and informative way
the 3500 is really the one to get if u have the cash yeah.....gettin 256*2 will be a lot better than 512*1 but since u wanna upgrade later.....i bet u can be patient with the slower performance for a wile.....
