I've got an HTC wildfire and would love to get rid of a lot of junk that is pre installed (facebook, voice search etc). I've heard of cyanogenmod but only really want to install something that's stable and that will still allow me to use the video recording/camera on the phone, as the latest version seems to state that this function won't work if you install it. Any ideas?

No idea but let me know how you go.

I too have a Wildfire S and I'm sick of it nagging about deleting stuff because it has run out of storage.

I don't even have any apps of my own on there !

I came across a wildfire issue post upgrade with memory usage. A factory reset solved the issue. In my experience of ROM flashing they tend to be buggy in one way or another, to the point that I gave up and went back to stock.

Sadly there are no decent roms for the wildfire S in my opinion. The last one I tried for my wifes old Wildfire S was highly recommended and was god awful. As long as you find a rom that supports using the SD card as extra storage then you should hopefully get away from getting stuck in upgrade hell like I did. It's irritating not being able to update an app as there is not enough space to do so once the update has been downloaded.

I would just recommend getting a different phone if you can. But it could be worse, you could have the original Wildfire....

Feel for you... friend at work has a Wildfire as a warranty loan phone at the moment. Needs something.... even browsing a couple of webpages brings it to its knees.

I've got a sensation myself and even that is showing its age compared to my tablet.

It's not that the phone is too slow for my needs. It's that some moron thought it would be a good idea to give the phone 128mb internal storage of which half or more is used by the phones default apps. I've got a total of around 8 apps on my phone and each has been 'installed on the sd card', and yet of an 11mb app, 4mb is still on the phones built in storage.

factory reset and re install worked for me as updating apps leaves crumbs that just seem to clog everything up

Best ROM for me is Cyanogenmod 7, on the Wildfire (non-S). Look up your phone here:

Most ROMS are buggy and rubbish, but a few are reliable enough to use day to day.

CM7 is fine on my non-S wildfire. The storage is the real issue, and the screen resolution also when it comes to browsing.

I've had the misfortune to have a relative with a Wildfire S. It just doesn't have enough built in storage and there's only so much you can do to make Android use the SD.
You end up fighting a constant losing battle against running out of storage and having to uninstall things you'd rather not in order to free up a tiny bit of space. It was a complete pain in the ass.
