Umm well i need to know what size drill bits are needed for regular case screws, and what size is used for fan screws? thanx
For the case screws check 6-32, http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/~masermri/screws/screw1.html . The fan screws are odd balls and I don't have any specs. Papst (http://www.papst.de/) specifies in their catalog 4.3mm for the hole in the fan. That would be a #18 or 11/64 drill and perhaps a #12 screw. When I researched the same question I encountered this screw kit http://www.mycableshop.ca/sku/ST-PCSCREWKIT.htm. It describes every screw, except the fan screws, strange? A government conspiracy, are the secrets of stirring hot air shared only among politicians?
personally, i use 1/4" drill bit so that they sit a bit more flush - but i have a huge bunch of screws that are a bit fatter than usual fan screws (threads are just shy of 1/4" - head is just a bit over) try a 3/16" first, and if it's too small for your screws, just move up incrementally. i've never had to drill for normal case screws, just about anything between 1/8" and 1/4" should do if you are using standard #6-32, 1/4" head phillips#2/ 1/4" hex case/pci type screws. (almost every computer made uses these for both pci retention and case panels, cause theyre dirt cheap - unless you buy a hp/compaq, and they use t-15 socket head #6-32ones - lian li use a different thread iirc ...
Sounds about right for a #10 screw (0.19" major diameter). I just measured one. It had 4.5mm=0.177" major diameter.
ya i got regular screws im pretty sure, and i got 1/8 and 1/4 bits yaya i dont have a 3/16 bit though
Gotta pay $300 entrance fee to get to the useful information. The free documentation about mobos is the same as Intel published.
ok well i tried the metal bits i have and 1/8th works somewhat with the case screws, i dont have one for fan screws and which drill bit would work for a 8/32 machine screw? 5/32 dont work
