Microsoft Word is to Microsoft Office as Macromedia Flash MX 2004 is to Macromedia Studio MX 2004.

So,Macromedia Studio MX 2004 will have their proprietary software to create flash animations (Macromedia Flash MX 2004) along with Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Freehand, and maybe something else I'm missing...

Personally, I think Dreamweaver is the most valuable tool in the set, but if you want some super cool animations, Flash MX 2004 is a must. There are a few alternatives out there, but none are as good as Macromedia's.

Check out http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/ to find out more about flash itself, and http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/ for info about the entire Studio.

If either of you are students, I highly reccommend getting a student version, much cheaper with the same tools. (Just can't use it for business reasons)

Great tutorials on making what you are talking about can be found at http://www.actionscript.org more specifically: http://actionscript.org/tutorials/intermediate/Flash_MX_Skip_Intro/index.shtml

    Hope it helps!
