correct, in the US you have to run with a catalyst of SOME sort....but it's only states like California, etc with more strict pollution statutes that actually DO the emissions tests. otherwise.....it's just if a policeman hears your car.

i'm just surprised they even went to all the trouble. i mean, it's a lot easier to go to auto shops and ask for their scrap. i'm a mechanic and i just give it away, because i don't have the time to clean it up (ie, take the steel and rubber/plastic off of it) for the extra money. those copper honda radiators, oh yeah. (a while back while in my auto training classes me and the guys raised $2k scrapping aluminum without trying much)

The metal prices are so high that there are tons of places that will take a whole car for scrap, including towing it, just to get the cat. I think they must be able to sell them for about $200.

Up in Logan, Utah where I go to college emissions laws are notoriously lax/nonexistant. You don't have to have a cat, period. I think they started relaxing the laws because the city's famous for its annual car show, but I really don't know. Outside Logan, even only ten or twenty miles away in Brigham City, emissions are pretty normal for the US.

Wouldn't you find salvaged cats in the junkyard?

Probably but it's far more hassle than it's worth lol BUT luckily as I said they didn't actually steal the cat, they got the wrong bit..mwhahahaha

I am laughing at it now tbh because it's alot less to replace the primary exhaust than the Cat, I'm going to put a lobster under my car at night now to guard it though :D

that's so bizarre and also pretty funny. sorry to hear you're gonna be out of pocket though. Have you spoken to your insurance company? they might offer coverage for this sort of thing.

luckily my car's pretty low (audi a3 sport) - you'd have to be an anorexic with no ribcage to get under it, so this ain't happening to me anytime soon. unfortunately, it's not immune from drunk twats knocking the wing mirrors off it while parked on new years :grr:

Yeh I spoke to the insurance company, £500 excess on theft claims....errrr no.

I'm actually selling it atm as it happens so it's even more annoying lol

I'm getting a Fabia vRS to replace it though so shouldn't have this problem again lol

I just hit the point that if someone wanted to steal my exhaust off my Jetta I would encourage it. Lower that pesky EGT enough that I can get the next level of tune on it.:D

It's the latest trend o_O Good money in that kind of stuff for whatever stupid reason. Exactly how the dealers in precious metals can continue to accept a hunk off of someone's exhaust system with no moral or legal recourse is somewhat beyond me, but there you go.

This is why I surround my property with an automated long-range turret system. I do it sneaky-like, so it only goes off while you're on the way out.

I'd like taser drones....or a predator over my house lol

Anyway, I've just got dad to send me the picture of it:

    *REMOVED*

The gap between the two pipes is about 4ft, you ust can't tell in this pic.

p.s. sorry it is such a big picture, nothing to edit it with at work :(

Take it down, I'll squish it up and stick 'er on imageshack. :)

OT: Damn! That's unfortunate. I've just had the front-portion of the exhaust done on my car and it was £120 with a new lambda-sensor too...

    Cheers for that guys :)

I usually do resize just no image editing stuff on the work comps, bah.

It was £164 inc VAT and Fitting which I thought was alright compared to £470 ex VAT for the Cat.

Glad I've got it back, now's all i need to do is sell it :D
