Well its time to upgrade my computer, but what should I buy? nForce4 SLi or nForce4 Ultra? ATi X800 xt pe, Nvidia 6800gt, or SLi Nvidia? Considering I havent been following this stuff for several months, I really dont have clue what to buy. EDIT: Also I DON'T overclock anything, keep this in mind
I will be going down the A8N SLI route (When available) - you always have the option then, plus the ASUS board has some excellent features...... Why not a couple of 6600 GTs instead! This was a good review I came across using "retail board's" http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=a8nsli&page=1 Matt
You could buy into SLI now, with the board, and just wait. Of course that becomes impossible because the video card I want is expensive and hard to find and I don't want to buy something slower now, only to have to ditch it later. I was going to upgrade to the A8N and AMD, but it looks like I'll be waiting until March or so for (hopefully) easier availability. Perhaps I'll look for current PCI-E parts when the latest revisions of the Nvidia and ATI cards are announced/out. Ugh, nevermind, this is depressing me.
Tbh, sit out the next few weeks, according to bigz the X850's are coming on sale then nForce 4 is a must like
Indeed it’s a **** state of affairs... The AMD CPU I want I cant get, the gfx card I end up deciding to buy I won’t be able to get and to top it off I cant even get any NF4 motherboards Humm....
A Chaintech Nforce 4 Ultra was available at Newegg.com sort of recently (a few days ago), and I stared at it with envy. I darn near bought it, but I talked myself out of it because I'd need to wait for the GPU and then I had a little hopefull idea that the AMD64 3800 might drop in price or something faster would, soon. I wonder what's up with the CPU front.
There not available in the UK but then it doesn’t really surprise me. Sod it I might as well buy a mac EDIT: The CPU im after is the AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (Winchester), I cant justify the extra cost of the higher end AMD CPUs ...
I was actually planning on buying the 3500 (Winchester or not), but now I can't bring myself to go any lower than 3800. The boards will show up in force soon everywhere, I hope. My friend is trying to get me to buy a Mac, and a notebooky as well. She doesn't seem to think there's anything that could be better than iTunes. I did get her to buy a new top of the line AMD system a few years back, but it wasn't as easy to put together as I promised it would be, so I think she won't trust any of my ideas ever again.
