In week or so I'll be running my new pc I've almost finished building. I was wondering what the best thing to do with my current pc is, it won't be used for anything and I don't want it sitting in the corner collecting dust so I was wondering if it was worth breaking down and selling or using it for something else ? The current rig is: Dell Precision WorkStation 360 Intel Pentium 4.0 MHz 4GB DDR PC3200 2 X 160GB IDE 7200RPM GeForce 6200 AGP DVD Read and Write Any use I can get out of it will be better than nothing
Welllll. As much as I want to say; "Make it into a media server, a hardware firewall, or something similarly useful" I really couldn't justify draining the UK power grid of every remaining watt of power to heat your home as a by-product of trying to find a use for the ghastly Netburst monster you have there. tl;dr Try to flog on eBay. (Make Sure your data is properly wiped!) Also, enjoy your future cheaper electricity bills. TSB
I have the exact same PC, except with the Quadro option for graphics and RAID 0 SCSI 36GB 10k RPM drives. I use it for... nothing. I installed Ubuntu onto it and used it as my main PC while my laptop was being delivered. It was really great when it was new.. It was great having that much RAM when most people had 512mb or 1gb.. But that hardware should not be cooled with a single fan. Awful clamshell case as well..
Id find a charity or somthing like a pre-school on a very tight budget to give it to. Selling in on ebay aint whats its cracked upto be after youve taken what youre gonna get for it and the fee's etc. Putting it to a positive use will be better than earning £20 out of it
